RSP-1068: No DPL II Setting for 5.1 System?

I recently bought the RSP-1068 for my 5.1 system, and I’m confused by the Surround format options. Specifically there appears to be no Dolby PL II (PLII) option.

I’ve been going through the Input Setup configuration menus to choose the Default (surround) Mode. I want to choose PLII since this is designed for 5.1. However, there is no PLII option for the Default Mode. The only similar option is Dolby PL IIx (PLIIx). But PLIIx is designed for 6.1/7.1 systems (which I don’t have).

Am I not able to choose PLII? If not, what other surround format is best suited for a 5.1 system.

Is anyone else in the same situation, in other words confused by these options.

    Thanks.

Make sure you have the right speaker configuration, disable all speakers that you dont have.

      Thanks for the reply.

I just checked this. My settings are correct for a 5.1 system. The Front/Center/Surrounds are enabled. The Center-Back is disabled.

PLIIx is the option you want. Rotel took the smart approach in my opinion by just calling it with the 'x' reguardless of your config. If center rears are not enabled it won't process them.

All the 'x' does is add the center rears anyway, for the normal 5.1 there is no difference.

DPL IIx - Let's remember how lucky we are :)

            Hi,

DPL IIx is about to ship for the RSP-1098, RSP-1068 and RSX-1067 (hopefully this weekend). However It has been frustrating for many of us waiting for DPL IIx with the will they or wont they rumours and misinformation. Indeed, in some other forums there have been some quite angry threads

PLIIx Cinema decoding of Dolby Digital 5.1 Sources with Denon AVR 3805. Please Help.
            by Octavio
I have a problem with my new Receiver, Denon AVR 3805. When I play a DVD encoded with Dolby Digital 5.1 (connected to OPT1 input) and try to use the Surround Back speaker I only get PLIIx Music and can't get PLIIx Cinema as an option. Of course SB Channel is set to on.

PLII vs DSP 5-ch on 1055
            by stewc
I watch a lot of SD video through my 1055 (analog cable channels, for example.) Two modes: through Tivo (analog audio to 1055) or Moto5100 STB (digital audio to 1055). In either case, I've been very disappointed with the 5-channel imaging of DD PLII Cinema -- seemed overly concentrated on the front-center...

            RDC PLII Question
            by gladelson
I have owned a RDC-7 for several months and there is something that I haven't figured out. My unit came with the PLII and DTS-ES upgrade. In menus 3-5 and 3-6 you can set the Prologic II mode to either "Movie" or "Music" for those surround modes (2 channel). These settings appear...

Is Dolby PLII Music supposed to sound awful?
            by Nicholas Renter
I dropped in a CD and immediately noticed that something didn't sound right (and that "awfulness" was coming from the rear speakers). Somehow, my RSP-1066 was in "Dolby PLII Music" mode.

I decided to do some investigation. I cut the output of the front left and right...
