It all depends on your speakers and if you are into Stereo performance.

The 1056/1080 combo is concidered the best perfomance for money.
    The 1068/1080/1075 is better
    The 1068/1090/1095 is even better

The 1056/1080 will sound simular in movies to the 1068/1075.
But stereo is a different ballgame, the 1080 beats the 1075 in that matter.

So the answer is not that simple. My front speakers sounded way better with my RB-981 than with my RB-985MKII. So I have a 1068/981/985MKII setup.

Try both setups at your dealer, preferably with your speakers.
    Marantz AV8802, Marantz UD8002, Rotel RB-991 and RB985mkii, Rotel RD960
    Focal/Jmlab Electra 1028S, Electra CC, Electra SW1000S, Cobalt 705
    Pioneer KRL-37V, Epson EH-TW8100, Kinkping CES-180 77"inch

      Yep, eelco74 said it all...

given your question is about movies, get the 1075 to match the output exactly on the 3 frontal speakers (which should be similar / identical). The 1056/1080 combo may give you surprises on very dynamic scenes (1080 has more power, and is not driven the same from the preamp stage, so the center may seem loud or soft at times).

If stereo is more important, or you dont have / don't want a center speaker, get a 1080.

Finally, if you plan to have 6 or 7 channels (ie, 2 surround and 1 or 2 back speaker), get the 1056 and 1070 or 1080 or 1075.

Not sure if that is clearer...

My 1068 / 1075 is used almost exclusively for multichannel music, with an identical center speaker, so a 1080 or 1056 would not have been a good choice.

        Many would choose 1098/1075

          RSX-1067 & RB-1080 or RSP-1068 & RB-1080
          by BlueSander
Hi all, another question here. I'm thinking about getting the RB-1080 because the RSX-1067 isn't doing that great to statisy my stereo need. The question is whether to sell the 1067 and purchase the RSP-1068 to couple with RB-1080 or just keep the 1067 and use it as the preamp for RB-1080?

          Rotel RB-1080 + Rotel 1056 + B&W 602s3's?
          by shah
I just got myself to get a Rotel 1056 receiver. Stepped up from a Yamaha RX-V750 receiver. Heard a Big jump in sound quality. What do you think? Anyway.. I have a couple of questions about adding a 2 channel amp to my Rotel 1056. I had originally thought about adding a Rotel RB-1070 but reading...

1075 or 1068 defective? Weird error!
          by Tony
I own a 1075 and a 1068 and now, my Rotel combination seems defective. If I switch both devices on, the left Surround channel is sometimes mute. If I make the 1068 off and then on, is the left Surround channel again there. After short time is the left surround channel many quieter than the right Surround...

          RB-1080 with RSP-1068 for HiFi
          by clarkbox
Im just starting on my system. All I have so far is the 1080, and building a pair of North Creek Rhythms.

I am sticking to a 2ch stereo setup - but would like some upgrade assurance built in. I would ideally like to get my hands on the 1090 pre, but cant wait to find a nice used one...
