No doubt the Rotel gear will sound MUCH better than onkyo. YOu need to leave any solid state gear on 24/7 for best sound and as far as break in goes it needs to have a good two weeks to start sounding nice ( and that's leaving it on 24/7 and playing it several hours a day). I have beeen going through the same thing with a new rb-1080. It sounded like total crap for the first several days and gradually started to sound sweeter. I am at two weeks now, and it sounds incredible now and keeps gertting better everyday. My dealer says it will peak at around 1 month. Keep it on, hang in there, and be patient. You'll be rewarded, trust me!

Onkyo will sound CLOSE to what the 1098 will sound like...the one thing that will really disappoint you once your stuff is broken in (and your stuff is not broken in AT ALL)...is the 2ch listening, the Onkyo NR901 will not come anywhere close to what the 1098 can in 2 channel... Especially with you pushing the 1090 to your L/R.

You need to give the equipment a 100-150 hours of use for you and it to get broken in (that's my rule of thumb). So if you are listening to it for 2 hours a day, that's about 50 to 75 days for your stuff to really get broken in..... You've got a long way to go my friend, and it will only get better and better!!!!! Honestly about 2 to 3 hours of use a day and in about 3 weeks you should be really starting to enjoy it.

Onkyo's equipment, while good, is not in the same league as the the Rotel stuff. I know my friend runs his B&W speakers off the 901 and I have the 1098/1095/1080 combo....my sounds much better.... Especially when it comes to imagining, which is where the onkyo falls... I would not even entertain the idea of the Onkyo.

      But that's just my opinion.

          RSP-1098 Arrives!
          by whmacs
          Hi All,
Well, three weeks after ordering my RSP-1098, my dealer came out to my home yesterday and installed the unit. My first pleasant surprise actually occurred before I even heard a sound from my RSP-1098. On Monday my dealer rang me to confirm the installation time. He also told me that between...

          RSP-1098 with 7.1 THX Setup?
          by whmacs
          Hi All,
A few months ago I upgraded my setup to 7.1 using Jamo 6LCR THX speakers and added Rotel RMB-1075 and RB-1070 amps to my Onkyo 787 to provide outboard amplification. This has added new life to the Onkyo giving it a big powerful sound.

I'm now thinking of replacing the Onkyo...

A couple of simple RSP-1098 Setup Questions
          by whmacs
          Hi All,
In preperation for my RSP-1098 arriving next week, I was reading the manual and have a couple of basic setup questions:

          1. I currently use a 12v trigger on my Onkyo to turn on power to my two Rotel power amps. This happens when I power on the Onkyo from Standby mode. Looking...

          Can I use a HDMI AV as a pre-amp to the 1098?
          by Poki
There is no HDMI to 7-channel analog audio "breakout" box.

I don't want to "junk" my 1098 but I need a HDMI Pre-Amp so will this configuration work?

          PS3 -> AV HDMI (say a Denon or Onkyo) In -> 7-channel Pre-out -> 1098 7-channel audio in (currently...
