    Buying Rotel Today!

I'm planning on getting the 1066 and 1075 today . Anything to check for other than see if it's got version 2.26, the 200Mhz video bandwidth (serial number 2341001 or higher) and the 1050 remote?

I've heard of some people getting the upgrade cable included and from what I've read I can just use a mono 1/8" plug for the 12v trigger to the amp, correct? I'm terrified I'm going to forget something 8O ...lol

Well I just got back from the local Dealer I ended up ordering a new silver 1066 and 1075 from Rotel as the only ones they had were a demo 1075 and 1066 with the old remote and god knows what software and video bandwidth.

Hopefully I should have them next Friday (according to the dealer anyway).

Oh yeah.... and I got a SMOKING good deal! I can't stop grinning! Can't wait till next weekend! Thanks again everyone for all your help.

          Thanks Danbry

The only thing that sucks is that it's only been 1 day and it's already killing me! This waiting thing is no damn fun.... and my fingers are sore from putting together my speaker cables and interconnects.... lol. I'm already having visions of the dealer calling to inform me of how back ordered they are and how many more weeks it will be etc... 8O

Now I know how all those people have felt in those posts saying how they've been waiting yadda, yadda...lol

              Re: "The fingers"

I have some banana jacks for my speaker cables that have tiny little screws in them that when you're using large guage wire are VERY difficult to screw down enough to get the metal sleeves over the screws. Hence while using great brute strength on them and trying to hold the jack still, the screwdriver has a tendency to slip off and embed itself into the nearest finger. It hurts. Alot. It also makes a bloody mess...lol. Add to that the twisting of god knows how many pokey ended cables. Much less painful for sure but not a manicure by any means. Besides I do graphic design/drafting on a computer for a living.... I have dainty hands! ...lol

I'm using some Belden 89259 and Vampire 5X/CB RCA's to make my IC's and sub cable. I hadn't actually seen the Venhaus page till this morning after you mentioned it ...lol. But there looks to be a wealth of info there. I've been using the DIY section here, Jon Risch, Cable Asylum and this page: http://www.mindspring.com/~pmbenn/cables.htm for reference and info. Plus Gene at Take Five Audio up here in Canada, who's been awesome. http://www.takefiveaudio.com is a great source for DIY parts up here in Canada.

I bought a bunch of RCA (cardas silver) from Gene earlier this year and was very happy with his service too.

I tried the 89259 interconnect vs (poorly made) venhaus silver formula vs 3 wire/30ga silver wire braid and my personal preference was for the braid. I had a huge amount of fun making and comparing interconnect formulae and have to say that I find a big difference in the way different wires sound.

Here is where I got the info for the 3-wire silver interconnect:

                http://www.soundstage.com/synergize/synergize111998.htm

I actually made 2 sets (4 runs) of the 27-pair Venhaus speaker cables (10ft and 8 ft), and nothing will give you a better appreciation of the words "sore fingers" than making a pair over a weekend

Hope you get your gear soon, and remember to tear youself away from your new system once in a while to visit Club Rotel

aud, did you buy from HiFi Centre? Or Westminster Stereo? Just curious? I just ordered some equipment myself. What % discount did you get?

I got it from Westminster Stereo. They only have a tiny little shop and nowhere near the setups or listening rooms of HIFI but they also weren't snobby towards me like they were at HIFI. When I went down to HIFI I almost got this attitude of "we're too good to sell you equipment". I'm sorry but that just don't cut it for me. See ya later. Even when I called them on the phone before I went down to verfiy that they had the equipment, store hours etc the guy on the phone sounded like he was too busy to talk to me and had an attitude too. Nice store though...lol As for the discount... I got just over 20%

Yup, thats pretty much the attitude I got from them over the years. As a result, I never buy from them, I just take up a lot of salesmens' time listening to equipment and buy elsewhere.

Good price, congratulations on your purchase.

Hopefully I can pick them up at the end of the week and get to play with them next wekend! And yes the wait is killing me!

(By the way Andrew, thanks again for pushing me to do what you know I really wanted to do and making me try Audiogon. I do feel a little in debt to you for that ops:

Me too! They've got a better showroom and listening rooms but man they are jerks...lol. I too was pleased about the price ... and thanks. I'm glad I'll soon be an "official" member / owner here

And yes Twitchie I promise I'll be back to visit Club Rotel even after I get the equipment. I mean what else am I supposed to do at work...lol

Wow, so this is where the Vancouverites hang out! I guess I need to get me some Rotel gear. Hmm, maybe a meet could be aranged?

I'll have to agree with local members zpanky and aud19. The people at HIFI Centre are real snobs. So those that want to visit and listen to some highend gear, go to that store.

Westminster caters to a pretty huge crowd due to their location. I bought HT in a box setup from them for my sister-inlaw and they were very pleasant to deal with. I've always thought they'd be the better store to deal with than HIFI. Thanks for the confirmation.

I am surprised to find out that there are quite a few Vancouverites in this forum.

I recently picked up a 1065 from HIFI center but have to say that they actually were very helpful and had no attitude at all. Unlike the guys from the Soundroom on Broadway. (I don't want to get off in a rant here, ...)

I tried to find the New West Hifi place but the address I got from somewhere was not right. Can you guys fill me in please?

                              Thx

Landsdowne Shopping Centre in Richmond. Its "Westminister Stereo". It is not a store in New Westminister. Its small and cramped, but I've heard a few people tell me they give great deals over the years.

And if you're in the market for a TV, shop around and then see the little old lady at South Van Colour TV. She'll throw out a price and you'll buy it on the spot. You may have to help her lift it off the pallette in the back though. Main and 60th (approx).

Yup, in Richmond, not New West. And yes the store is tiny with really no listening room or anything but they were super nice and gave me a great deal

I may have to get the location of that store from you when I'm ready to buy. If you can please let me know the dimensions of the box. It might end up cheaper for me to go out there to get 20% off than only getting 10% off here. I can get to Vancouver really cheap.

                                    Congrats!! Enjoy the system!!

This is what I was afraid of...

You might not be able to get the same price as me...never know, just don't assume it.

As for sizes of box's I don't even take delivery till this Friday (hopefully) so someone who already has the equipment might be better able to assist you with that info right now. If not when I get them did you need the box sizes for both the 1066 and 1075 or just one?

                                        So, is it here yet?

Vancouverites, there's a HT event happening on Oct 22 and 23 at Sound Plus, 600 W Broadway. I went last year and it was pretty neat, they bring in a lot of manufacturers and have all their rooms going with demo's. I'm going to be there on Wed night with my cousin.

Email me if anyone is planning to attend, would love to say hi.

Not here yet The dealer is thinking next wednesday now, which in all honesty was what I had anticipated. After reading on here about people waiting for their orders for a couple weeks, when the dealer told me next Friday, I was thinking "yeah right". So it's not a big shock. Dissapointing yes, shocking no. At least I have this rainy weekend to finish my IC's...lol.

As for the thing at Sound Plus... Why do they always do these things in the middle of the bloody week?! If it was on the weekend you just might have seen me there Paul.

Darn, if you have to wait until Wednesday, I'll have to wait until at least then for my equip.

I was going to go to the event at Sound Plus on the 23rd, but now it appears as though I will have to work late.

                                              Hey aud19,

I would be looking for the size of both 1066 & 1075. But there's no rush as I'm no where close to purchasing soon. Just wondering that's all.

Hope you get your stuff soon so you can tell us all about them. Enjoy!!!

The Hi Fi Center was my first experience outside of A&B, but The salesman I dealt with was excellent. I was looking for a Denon 3803 and he said it was a good model, but he thought I should try Rotel 1055. I heard it and I was sold. They offered to exchange it for full value wthin a year if I wanted to upgrade to the 1066/1075 combo. I was always intimidated by high end dealers, but this salesman made me feel completely at home even offering to show me the B&W 801s. I will check out Westminster Stereo, I just wanted to say Hi Fi's service isn't all bad. The Club Rotel forum is great!

                                                  Zed,

Perhaps you were wearing nicer clothes than I or something? That's the only thing I can think of, is that they have a case of Holt Renfrew-itis ..lol. (Anyone who has shopped there I'm sure knows what I mean...)

By the way, in case anyone was wondering, I decided on the 1066 over the 1055 as I have no need for the extra amps or a tuner and I plan on having this stuff for a long time so I wanted the best sonics possible, even if the difference is only slightly perceptible.

Also, to anyone thinking of making there own minimal cost IC's... I finished off the RCA's for the pre/pro to amp connection and pre/pro to sub on Sunday. (Still have to complete the 6 DVD-A cables.) I tested them to make sure they were working on my old secondary system. Plugged them into only the right channel, I left the left channel with the existing cheap RCA's... Wow! what a difference! The instruments in the right speaker were way more detailed and distinct and this is before the cables have had ANY chance to break in and on my old crappy gear! I highly reccomend the products I listed in my above post. By the way... I have a new respect for putting cables together, lot's of work but well worth it

Just called the dealer my equipment might be in today, probably tomorrow, Thursday at the latest. Got my fingers crossed!

                                                  J.R.

Recently replaced my Yamaha 5.1 receiver with a 1075/1066 set up. My question is whether or not I can use my multi room speaker selector that use to run off my Yamaha A/B selector(B setting) off of the 1075 amp. The components sound awesome in my HT setup, but I had three sets of small speakers in...

I'm having a small problem with the 1066 and my Denon 1600 when using the analog 5.1 ins for DVD-A. It seems to be defaulting Dolby Pro Logic II. How do I get it to just play the straight analog signal as is? I've resorted to hiting the 2-channel button on the front which I think is working but not...
