    New vs Second hand

Just wondering what peoples thoughts were regarding new vs used equipment.
I have the chance to buy a second hand 1070 power amp. I can buy the same amp new for a couple hundred more, but saving the 200 is tempting. Anyone have any comments?

Farbs, I have bought a used Rotel CD-player, and it is in perfect condition. But, for my 'main' stereo, I have bought all new. It's just a choice I made. If you are careful with second hand purchases, there is no reason to think that they wont reach the same ripe old age as new gear.

That $200 that you're talking about. Is that off the RRP or of the best deal that you can get? Also, which state do you live in? I just might be able to recommend a really good dealer.

      Thanks for the Reply.
      I live in Sydney NSW.
And that was 200 off the best price I could get!!
The cheapest I could get it for was 630 floor stock, And the used one is 1yr old 428.

I bought an RB-1080 new in March last year for $1400. I can't imagine the 1070 is so far below it in performance. For $428 it's a BARGAIN!!! Provided it's in top condition, I'd say grab it. Assuming you can inspect before hand over the money, that is.

Had you been in SA, I would have recommended that you see a particular dealer from Sound and Vision Studios. I bought a pair of speakers from them and a rack a few months ago. Great people to deal with.

        Goodluck!

I think whether you buy it secondhand or as floor stock, at the prices quoted you couldn't go wrong either way. Ideally who ever you are buying the 1 year old RB-1070 from for $428 will have the original receipt, if this is the case the balance of the original 3 year warranty should be transferable, if the orginal receipt is available and it is infact as new its really a no brainer, go with the RB-1070 secondhand.

          Regards,

          John.

I recently bought my RB-1070 new for $650. It is a fine amplifier for 2 ch listening. Get the used one - that is a good price for a gently used Rotel.

Whenever looking for equipment I will buy used based on reviews with that particular component. At that point if your careful with who you buy from you should be fine and I've never had a problem. My RSP-1068 I just wanted the warranty and the support a dealer can provide, and if you check my post on static hum it's a good thing I did. My Anthem PVA 7 I bought used and felt comfortable based on the seller and the fact that problems aren't there at all.

If there isn't a lot of problems with that AMP then go for it!

Given that this model has been very reliable I wouldn't have a problem buying a second hand model at all.

do it. second-hand gear, when of good quality, is the way to go. i've bought some h/k seperates, a drumset, cymbals, etc. used and have never regretted any of the purchases. if it was a rotel cd or pre, i'd say hell no. their 1070 amps are very solid with no problems i've ever heard about.

Not a problem as the warranty is fully transferable in Australia.

I bought a RCD-991 cd player and a RC-970 integrated for 450$ canandian in the used market and everything is in near-mint condition...

the used market is a good place to acquire Hi quality gear at mass market gear price...

I have all my Rotel gear new from the dealer. Except for my excellent RB-985MKII. I found it second hand. At that time only 1 year old. And paid 599 Euro's for it (current RB1075 at around 1500 Euro new).

                              Hi guys,
I have since learned that the second hand rotel 1070 was a scam on ebay.
The original sold and then I get an email saying I have a second chance offer.
I reply to it, only to find out he wants my user name my full name and my adress? So I tell him no Send me all your details and I will pick the item up.
He replies he is in Italy so I report him to Ebay End of story.
Man Ebay is getting shonkier by the day. You have to be so careful!!
Anyway after that I went out and bought a Fujitsu Plasma to make up for the dissapointment

No guarantees of safety & security at Audiogon, either... but it's less scary than ebay... and there's a 1070 there waiting for a nice home...

Occasionally I see N805's for sale in Australia, but I've...
