    Hollow vocals

I am running a 1098/1075 combo with b&w speakers; music sounds awesome on this system, including when it is in five channel stereo, all the speakers are warm, including the center channel. When I listen to movies, however the vocals coming from the center channel seem very harsh and hollow, so bad that I don't like listening to the system. I have spent so much money that it makes me sick that I cant stand it... Is there any settings I can change to improve issue? Thanks

There are several possibilities at work here. The first I would investigate is your setup. Did you use a meter to set up your system with a good calibration disk like DVE? Don't rely on the Rotel test tones. I found that even the THX`setup included with some movies is far better than relying on the built in test tones. Be sure that delay is set acurately I would experiment with setting the center channel at less than the actual distance to the seating area, and last but not least check speaker hookup for phasing. Be sure your PLII options are set for Cinema and not music.

Secondly, I would experiment with different setups for small vs large for your center speaker and front mains.

Perhaps if you would tell us which B&W's you own, somebody here with the same speakers can comment.

I am using B&W 704's for the front, an HTM7 for the center, an ASW 750 subwoofer and DS7 for surround. I will look into the PLII options, but I didn't know they had any effect during Dolby Digital playback. I will let you know what I find out.. Thanks for the reply. -Josh

Yes we do. OK, that being said, how about giving me a call (I'll PM my number) and you can come over here and listen to the speakers you should have gotten!

I currently have the same center, sub, and 703's front. Using 1095 / 1068 comb.

What are your settings for the center channel and what is your video source?

I would agree that a meter and calibration disk are needed to setup your system!!!! Don't forget about placement.

BTW Dallasdave, is the HTM7 a good "mix" with the 703's ?

Short answer yes. It fit into my budget for speakers and I'm happy with it's performance. Is there better centers, well there's always something better. Size was also an issue and the HTM7 fit into my limited space.

In the future when I upgrade to a 50" plasma mounted to the wall I'll have space for a larger center channel and may look into upgrading the fronts and center. I could see moving up to the B&W 800 series; for now I'm pleased with this center.

I use my Marantz 8400 to process the sound durning movie PL II/ DTS, sacd and dvda because it seperates a cleaner image to the center than my rotel 1068.

PLII vs DSP 5-ch on 1055
                  by stewc
I watch a lot of SD video through my 1055 (analog cable channels, for example.) Two modes: through Tivo (analog audio to 1055) or Moto5100 STB (digital audio to 1055). In either case, I've been very disappointed with the 5-channel imaging of DD PLII Cinema -- seemed overly concentrated on the front-center...

                  RSP 1066 dead center channel
                  by deepinder_gill
I have an issue with the center channel output on my Rotel RSP 1066. I do not hear any sound at all from the center channel. Even the test tones are silent with the center channel. As a matter of fact, the test test is silent on all center channel outputs (C1/C2/CB1/CB2). The center chanel is hooked...

Has anyone's center channel ever "gone" on them?
                  by Kyle
                  A little background here.

I've owned this RSP-1068 for almost 2 years now. About 6 months ago, my center channel more or less stopped working.

I checked my amp, checked my cabling, checked my settings, everything as fine. If i went into the test tones, and cranked the volume...

                  RDC PLII Question
                  by gladelson
I have owned a RDC-7 for several months and there is something that I haven't figured out. My unit came with the PLII and DTS-ES upgrade. In menus 3-5 and 3-6 you can set the Prologic II mode to either "Movie" or "Music" for those surround modes (2 channel). These settings appear...

I bought the 1055 two days ago and put on the 2.25 update software from version 2.20. Tonight I tried hooking up the center rear speakers through the redirect circuitry. Right now I am watching Satellite on PLII cinema mode and getting the fronts coming through the center rears. I have tried to read...
