    RSP 1068 Surround mode

Is it possible to switch the 5 or 7 channel stereo mode with a Dolby Digital 2.0 sound track? I can only engage it when its either an analogue signal or a stereo pcm signal. Any ideas.

    Thanks

I'm not sure about 7 channel stereo but you should be able to engage PLIIx which will give you the 7 channels...and in a more cinema like mode as well.

Yes thanks Andrew i can engage the PLIIx , however its not quite what i want as its old remastered music videos on DVD and doesnt quite sound right with the PLIIx, plain stereo just works better for it , thats why i was hoping to use the 7 channel stereo mode. Pity , my previous receiver you could do that. I guess you win some and then you lose some.

windshear, Look in the bottom half of your remote with the surround modes and you'll find the 7 channel button. A 5 channel mode is available as well. I don't believe you can engage that mode from the front panel, only on the remote.

You could also try switching PLII to the music mode instead of Cinema if that's what its set to.

I have tried to switch to 5 or 7 channel stereo with a digital feed from the cable box while listening to music. It does not allow the change unless I use the analog cables which I have for the second zone.

I think that is how it's meant to be. If analogue you can select what you want 5/7 channel stereo etc... But if it's a digital feed then it goes through the digital decoder chip. So you have whatever options are available on that DTS Neo, Dolby Pro Logic DD, DTS etc...

Instead of 5/7 channel stereo how about DTS Neo music

Very aptly put Steff, you will need analogue cables to make the switch you seek.

Man I'm pretty sure I have done this before.......
After thinking about it, maybe what I did was change the settings in my oppo DVD player to not stream a DD signal. I'm going to have to play with this when I get home and see if I did it, or if I am dreaming.

OK, I wasn't dreaming. You can't do it with the 1068, but you can trick it depending on your DVD player. I am using the Oppo DVD player so it will obviously depend on your gear. In the setup menu of the oppo I changed the SPDIF output from RAW to PCM (downmixed 2 channel bitstream).
When I did it with Star Wars AOTC I could scan through every non-Digital mode including 5 and 7 channel. Once I swiched the SPDIF output back again (while the movie was playing), the 1068 immediately read the signal and swiched back to it's Digital Processor.

More cables will work, but if your DVD has an option, this way is definiltely easier.

Most of the DVD players I've ever dealt with had this option in the setup menu only available when the dvd player is stopped, so the analog cables could actually be easier for some..

                        Food for thought.

                            G'day,

I can pick up a RC-1090 stereo pre-amp for about half price. How would this compare to the analog bypass mode of my RSP-1068 pre-processor? Is there a substantial difference in sound quality?

I've been using my RSP-1068 for about 5 months now. I would like to try tweaking my setup but am not sure where to start. I am using B&W 703 / HTM7 / DS7 speakers. My current configuration includes the following:
