Rotel RSX-1056 VS. RSP-1068: Sound quality question

I'm thinking about the 804S for half HT and half stereo music use.

However, I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with these 2 setup
and curious if there are any audible differences in sound quality.

    Setup 1:
    RSX-1056 with RB-1080. 1080 for 2 main fronts. 1056 for center, left
    rear, and right rear.

    Setup 2:
RSP-1068 with RB-1080. 1080 for 2 main fronts. No center or rear
channels. If add in future, will have to look for a 3 channel amp.

I'm thinking Setup 1 would be great for the future, all I have to do is
add center and rear speakers and I've got a HT system. Ofcourse add
    a sub.

But, I'm wondering if Setup 2 will offer me a better quality sound when
used in stereo mode. Is the RSP-1068 an inherently better processor
    than the RSX-1056?

    Thanks!
    Jim

My understanding is that hte 1068 and the 1056 have essentially the same pre/proc sections but 1068 has a slightly cleaner sound...extra noise in the 1056 probably comes from the tuner and the amp sections...which one adds more noise? I dont know.

Do a search...there is actually someone recently had both units who preferred teh 1068 sound.

I did a true head to head @ my dealer b-4 purchasing and bought the 1068. It opened up much sooner (lower volume) than the 1056 did. Enough to make me forget the tuner, and 5 channels of amp I was giving up for less money in the 1056.

The 1056 is a fine unit, the 1068 is clearly better to me for 2ch music.I have no bias it just sounds better, more musical from top to bottom.

I feel strange offering my opinion on these things, since I am really still such a newbie with all things audio.

However, I did try the 1056/1075 and the 1068/1075 combinations head-to-head at my home.

The 1068/1075 sounded better. Most especially (for me), the 1068/1075 still had hiss/hum annoyances, but less so than the 1056/1075 exhibited.

I'm curious about the quality and type of DAC used in the rsx1056. I plan to run my squeezebox's digital out into either the 1056 or rsp-1068. (Squeezebox plays digital files streamed from my computer's hard drive in the other room... MP3s but also lossless FLAC files--it's pretty sweet and, supposedly,...

As you probably know from my other posts I have been a little peeved with my 1056 due to a snapping sound from my speakers and the video upconversion. While I have had problems, I can't live without the nice Rotel sound. I am going to return my 1056 for either a new 1056 or upgrade but it is a little...

            Rotelians,

For those that have the 1056, 1067 or 1068, attached is a procedure to refresh the display screen. I tried it. It's easy to do and it works....
