    Rotel RA 985

I am thinking of upgrading the system in my home office, I have a Carver CM 1090 and I am looking at a Rotel RA 985 on EBAY. Would this be an upgrade? My speakers are Monitor Audio Silver S6 and I use an Onkyo DX-C380 CD changer, or my Ipod or my vintage Technics SL 1900 turntable as the source. I ususally listen to this system for several hours a day, most times just back ground music but I also like to crank it up and really listen. Anybody have opinions on the best way to upgrade. It sounds pretty good but not as clear and clean as I would like. I am comparing it to my Parasound C2/A51 w/Triads reference system, not a fair comparison I must admit.

Yea, I've got a watch on that amp also. Pretty nice. Do you have a phono preamp? That amp has no phono input. I'm asking because you use a technics turntable as your source. Still, it seems like a real winner. Plenty of power and great sound. I was also checking out the 972 thats up for sale also. 60 watts per channel. Still pretty powerful. Having never heard the Carver amp. I couldn't really say which is better.

      DelRay,

Hi, No I do not have a phonopreamp. That is a good point that I had not considered. I see it went for $350.00. Hope you were the winner, seems like a pretty good deal. I guess I will stick with my Carver and just keep an eye out for an upgrade. I was hoping someone could tell me if a Rotel would be an upgrade from my Carver CM 1090. Looking through the threads it seems quite a few owners are having problems with their Rotel. The Carver seems solid as a rock.

I don't know what it is about Rotel products. But it seems that they are the only ones I want. There are alot of fine integrated and pre amps from other companies, but the Rotels are the ones I crave for. It's like I'm under their spell. Unfortunatly I did not get the 985. A little too rich for my blood. Plus, I'm a rookie at bidding.
