    ready to plunge...pre-plunge cold feet

well, the time has come. i have decided to purchase a new av system.

my research has led me to this forum to seek the advice and experience of the almighty club rotel MEMBERS.

    it looks like this:
    rotel rmb-1075; rb1080; rsp-1068; rt-1080

a pair of anthony galo reference III's; a set of anthony gallo due's for surround.

a pair of sunfire super junior subs .

has anyone heard this combo; or have any advice before i make it so...

    thank you, michael

Come on in, the water's fine. I see nothing wrong with your choices, although some of them I'm only familiar with by reputation only. The only thing I might quibble about is your sub selection. I've always been partial to Velodynes and if there is a dealer in your area, you might want to check them out, especially the SPL II series I believe would be a good match for the rest of your choices.

      Welcome Michael, great selections.

The Sunfire Jr. subs will be great for music, but lacking in HT.

      Just my quick thoughts,

Ditto on the subs, SVS is bang for the buck...........as is the rest of what you're choosing

Having two subs should be fine. The junior's may not reach down into the lowest frequencies with authority, but in 98% of your movies the dual Junior's will make you very happy.

The other side of the coin is to combine your $ into one super sub rather than two little subs. There should be a lot available in that price range.

          good luck!

i would really love stereo subs and i have auditioned a number of different subs, many of which were ok. i fell in love with the vandersten v2w. but they all had the same "large" cabinet.

i have the two common av conditions called "lack-of-room-itis" and "killerspouse syndrome". a small cabinet sub will be the only cure. so a local audio dealer recomended 2 super juniors.

are there other small cabinet subs that should be considered???

            thank you,m

              Michael,

              Velodyne HGS-10x $2,000 size 11x11.5x11, down to 20 hz
Definitive Technology supercube II, size 12.3x12.1x12.3, down to 14 hz

both come with a 1250 watt amp.

However, your Junior sub ( only 9x9x9 ) is very small. If you have room on both sides of your tv it should be fine. The imaging should be first rate. My recommendation is go for it. :T

I had the 1080 tuner for about a month... realized I never used it and it just looked nice :P

I would use the extra cash to upgrade to a bigger amp er... something.

I would pick up the rotel tuner when thier edition of the sirus radio comes out. I think its not far away. It looks just like the 1080 but with the sirus added. :P

i will be doing more sub research. def tech and velodyne will be revisited.

sirius would be an excellant addition!!! thank you, i will contact rotel to see about release date on the new tuner.

i guess i am not as researched as i would like. this is what makes the club rotel forum so great.

thank you for all the help. i did not know what to expect from my first post.

Depending on budget, you might want to include SVS in that sub list. Speaking as a Deftech owner, when I added my sub, I really felt I got more sub for the same $$$ with SVS over Deftech. I was skeptical at first, but after 2 months with the SVS I've never regretted my decision.
                    just my 2 cents.

i realize the value of svs and some of the other sub's out there. i am trying to avoid the sheer size of these subs. the small cube versions of def tech/velodynes/sunfires all get great reviews and sound great without the box. i feel that with a pair of small but high quality subs i will get the sound i want, as well as excellant imaging.

it is a difficult process, since it is nearly impossible to audition speakers using the same rooms and equipment.

Very true. To quote my wife when the SVS sub arrived..."Did you buy a CABINET!"
If size was a concern for my room, I would have paid more for "similar" performance in a hearbeat. For me it was not.

I loved the Deftech sc2. The sunfire I looked at was even smaller and very impressive too, although it came with a price. I was close to buying the Deftech as I thought it was a touch better, but I will be the first to admit that I am a bit bias to Deftechs. I do think they tend to be a better sub for HT, which is about 70% of my usage.

Either way, I seriously doubt you can go wrong.

i guess all my anxiety and obsession is about getting it right. right for my ears; room; marriage and budget. not necesarily in that order..

a small house can easily be overwhelmed by an a/v system; my ultimate concern is that i do not want to outgrow the system before my marriage can handle another round of auditions and expense.
space and it into that space is a large concern so deftech and sunfire are thge two contenders.
                          thank you, m

You might also look at the Paradigm Seismic 10 or 12. I have only had it a short time now but I like it very much. Would be worth trying it out. You can also read about it on there website.

It appears that my ears prefer the wavelength of a smaller driver. After trying dual then one Velodyne DD18 in my room, I found that they were not able to produce the musical bass I like. Then I moved to the Sunfire Signature 12” and found some improvement but similar negative results. While I feel...

Okay, my Sunfire True Mark IV has some damage, so I had to send it back to Sunfire. But wait, Sunfire says you can take it back to your dealer and have them send it in. Cool, maybe I can get my dealer to loan me another sub while mine is in the shop. Sure enough my dealer says I loan you the Sunfire...

                              I'm an owner of B&W N802's and HTM1 speakers. I'm currently running a Proceed Amp 3 (150wpc @8 ohms 300 @ 4 ohms) and a Rotel RB-1080 (200wpc 8ohms, above 300 at 4). This of course has plenty of juice. But when is plenty ever enough. :B

Many of you know, these speakers LOVE power....
