Kens,my complaint is with hiss in center and surrounds when listening in 2ch mode.Almost any avr/pre/pro will have a hiss (some more some less)in active channels, thats normal. As you said the Panasonic mutes other channels not used,as do most all other designs, thanks for checkin' it out.

I get the hiss no matter what mode I'm in and I get it in the front 3 channels. I haven't hooked up the surrounds yet.
I just got the unit hooked up on Thursday.
IF I cannot another 1056 without these problems, or a definite timeframe for fixing them, then I'll keep the 1056 but get a written agreement that when the 1057 comes out in a year or two, that I'll get the full payment I made for the 1056 to be applied to the 1057, which will no doubt have fixed these problems.
I paid 2 large ones, including taxes, for this 5.1 receiver. That's certainly not a HTIB. There should be extremely low hiss, if any. I can hear the hiss from my center channel from 6 feet away.
Not to mention the pop problem.
I had NO problems like this with my lowly Denon 3300, which was a 5 year old product until I sold it and bought the 1056 last Thursday..

Greg, did you try disconnecting all your sources (esp. cable or satellite) to try and rule out a ground loop or source issue as the cause for your hiss?
A hiss audible from inches away is normal. Every receiver and amp I've ever owned has done this. If it's audible from 6 feet away, then THAT's a problem.
Does your center channel hiss get louder when you turn the volume up and softer when you turn it down?- Bottom

I am returning my 1056 and getting a replacement, which they will update to the latest software and flash the eprom.
I just had too many problems.
The hiss, the popping, 2 times freezing up and I had to turn it on and off using the back switch, another time just turning off (these are when I was changing parameters in system setup), the mute doesn't always totally mute - I can still hear a slight sound from the input, etc.
So, I'll let you know what happens with the next one. I'm thinking I just got a dud. It happens with any manufacturer.
I should get it on Friday..

Just my 2Cents, but this has been a huge discussion on hiss, and there hasn't been a single mention of speaker efficiency - the effect of any hiss however minimal will be 2x louder with a 3db increase in efficiency - in other words - hiss will be a much bigger issue for someone with 93db efficient speakers over someone with 85 db efficient speakers...- Bottom

Question please, about basementjack's comment:
Is it really that simple? What I mean is, since the hiss comes only through the tweeters (which need so much less power than the woofers), does the speaker's raw efficiency rating really apply to both tweeters and woofers equally?- Bottom

...it's true, my speakers have an efficiency of 103DB's. I hear every little piece of sound that the amp offers, being both good and bad. A hiss will be a lot more apparent on speakers offering higher efficiency.
I also have pro ac 2.5's that have 86 db efficiency and I don't hear any hiss what so ever unless I crank the volume at Mack 8!
anyways just my 2 pesos.Got a nice rack to show me ?- Bottom

This is the second 1056 that has hiss problems, except that now it is hiss/buzz/hum.
My dealer is talking to Rotel to see what gives.
I hope they can rectify this situation..

My hiss is from the tweeters, but the buzz/hum is from the tweeters and mid/bass driver.
I've put it on a separate circuit and will try today and unplug all of the inputs, and see what happens.
Also, the hum/buzz is there half the time and half the time it isn't.
Arggggghhhh!!!.

by ScherrI have a Denon AVR-2800 running Paradigm studio 40's, 20's, and CC, v.2, and a PW-2200. Since the Denon 2800 only has preouts for the fronts and center and I use the "B" speaker input for a second zone so I need a new receiver rather then adding just an amp.
I am leaning toward...-

by JayHello all Rotel users.
I am considering purchasing the above and have some questions. My requirements are that the system must play music well in stereo. Home theatre sound must also be quite good. (70 % music - 30 % home theatre)

by shahI just got myself to get a Rotel 1056 receiver. Stepped up from a Yamaha RX-V750 receiver. Heard a Big jump in sound quality. What do you think? Anyway.. by GlennIt is my understanding the new Rotel RSX-1056 will have video upconversion. Thus, regardless of the video type going into the 1056, all signals can be sent out from the 1056 to the TV, via a single component video connection.
If the above is correct, two questions:
1. Can...-
