RSP-1066/RSX-1055/RSX-165 Settings survey

I would like to have a survey on your Rotel Sound Processor settings. Speakers are floor stands from Monitor Audio: Silver 8i front (35Hz-25KHz), Silver 5i rears (38Hz-25Khz), Silver 10i centre (48Hz-25KHz) and REL Quake subwoofer (23Hz-150Hz).

My current setup is:

Any recommendation or changes on my current settings?

My 1066 is set up with the sub @ 60 and all the speakers set to large. The rest of my settings are the same as yours Running vandersteen 3s in front vandersteen 2s in the rear & bose 901 series six run in series for the center. My sub is a unit that I built myself. It,s tough to give any advice because of differing speakers & rooms, however I have had varying results with different speaker placement, if your looking to fine tune your system you might start there. To get my settings, after callibrating, I just switched back and forth to find the settings that sounded best to my ears. I'm one who notches the sub up a couple of decibels during callibration as a preference though. Also, have now bought the Behringer Feedback Destroyer, but haven't used it yet, so that might well affect the settings in the end. Pretty busy right now, so it might take quite a while before I get around to it.

Nice choice in speakers. I'm running a Monitor Audio 7i/10i/FXi combo with a Velodyne sub. I have a Monitor Audio FB-210 sub that I'm not using yet due to space constraints.

All speakers are set to small and I have the crossover set to 100Hz on my 1098 although I have been experimenting with the 80Hz and 60Hz settings as well. I think the MA's sound really good with a lower crossover setting. I've noticed when watching movies and there is a pan from right to left or vice-versa the lower crossover setting sounds better. I'll have to give 40Hz a try as well.

At my Active Subwoofer, frequency setting is also at 40hz, so that the sub really cuts at 40hz and I have to boost a bit on my subwoofer volume to hear the lower frequency.

I run at the standard 80 HZ crossover for movies as movies are mixed for this but also since I only have the 1055 and no external amp I feel it keeps the load off the amps.

I calibrate my sub FLAt (or as close as possible). I use AVia to set all speakers (60 on the volume or 71 DB ). Then I switch to the test tone and use them to set the SUb to about 69 Db on the RS sound meter for the sub. Apparently at lower HZ the RS meter reads about 2 db high).

I've calibrated my system with the 1066's internal test tones to 75dB and this setting gives me the smoothest frequency response. To map a frequency response I used Stereophile's Test CD 3 and the RadioShack Sound Level Meter. This only tests the SUB and Front L & R but that's where most of my listening is done- music in 2ch.

Speakers are: Vienna Acoustics Mozart (FRONT), Vienna Acoustics Maestro (CENTER), Vienna Acoustics Haydn (Surround), Velodyne CT-120 (SUB). My room is very...intimate. It measures 13'W x 15'L x 8'H. The sweetspot is equidistant (8') from the arc the front three speakers create. The surrounds are placed about 2' above ear level (when seated) and directly to the sides of the sofa.
