    Computer Monitor Screen Resolution Survey

PLEASE answer survey above AND list specifics as follows, it's important! (Even though this is computer related, I put the survey here for maximum exposure. I may move it after everyone has a chance here to what seems the more logical location of the computer area.)

(Note, the reason my response selections seem abbreviated and cryptic above is a 100 character response limit ton polls.) ops:

What configuration do you run? You can answer more than 1 selection if true for notebook and desktop. Please limit to PCs that you use yourself daily, not every one you have ever bought.

But I would really like to see specific numbers like this: (Brands optional)

    work Dell LCD 1600 X 1200

Home Gateway LCD 23" 1024 X 730 I think it is (will check tonight)

    Home Sony notebook, 1024 X 768

    Daughter's PCs, doesn't matter, as I don't use them.

Paul's format below is VERY good, thanks Paul.

There are three kinds of people in this world; those that can count, and those that can't.

                Home = Work

                Mac G4 tower

                RasterOps (Hitachi) 21" CRT -- 1152 x 870... old, but indestructible.

Any future monitor here can only be high-res.

                    I only have a 17" CRT at work - 1024x768

At home - 1182x854 or something (would be higher but the wife doesn't like it)...

I had to do some research to come up with this data. This had better be REALLY important. :>)

                          Work: NEC 18 inch LCD 1,280 x 1,024
                          Home: Gateway 21 inch LCD 1680 x 1050

                                        After years it still haven't change from the prediction for resolution at size, eg 15"-17" @ 1024 x768 and 19"-21" @ 1280 x 1024
Even though the screen can support higher resolution, our eyes are limit to have certain eye sight that do not get better(only worse in the same individual).

People who will generally go for higher resolution for the prediction are usually doing art work on computer. I remembered some government's art related institutions were using 19" @ 1600 x 1200 while the majority stuck at 15" @ 1024 x 768 for home user(brands varies, but EIZO and the other brand which I forgot the name were one of the biggest ones)

Although I can go as high as 1280 x 1024 I pretty much stick to 600 x 800 for all my computing because everything is too small for my tired old eyes at the higher rez.

You must work on a "help desk" somewhere. :>) In Windows XP (Home Edition) two right clicks will not get you all the way to the information you asked for even if you are already at the computer "desktop", which I seldom am. (It will require at least one more to open the "Settings" tab, not counting the key strokes or mouse clicks to get you to the desktop.)

What my comment was really about was not the "work" involved to get the information, but curiosity about the purpose behind the request (IOW, in what way are our responses "important" or "helpful"). Are you responding to a complaint about the resolution of the site's pages, or perhaps contemplating a change to the site's configuration, or are you having us help you do a research project for one of your daughter's college courses? :>) Any of those would be OK, but inquiring minds want to know. :>)

I don't think anyone uses 800x600 or less anymore.

I believe it has to do with cats too... 1024x768 is a good baseline to use when designing the site, but if it'll stretch automagically to accomodate higher resolutions that is even better.
