Need some help with crossover settings on my 1068

Just got my 1068, and have a few questions about crossover settings.

I am using the following speakers:

Front: B&W DM603s3 (set to large)
Center: B&W LCR60s3 (set to small)
Rears: B&W DM601s3 (set to small)

    NO SUB (small apartment).

So, based on what I've read, the 1068 has a master crossover, and individual crossover settings for each speaker set.

Since I have no sub, whatever gets crossed over should be hitting the Front speakers since they are set to large. However, I'm not sure exactly what to set the crossover settings to. Should I just set the master crossover and leave it be? Or should I adjust it on a per set basis?

I understand the theory behind crossovers, but in the past I've just sort of left my crossover settings at 100Hz.

    Any advice?

I have the 603s3 w/lcr600.Waiting for budget to get the 601s3,then i'm done.I'm usin a Rotel rsx1056.Any how i'll tell you how i have mine set .My 603s3 are set to 60(master).For ht they are set to small.the center-small at 80,surrounds-small at 80.Now i have a sub.For stereo i have the 603s3 set to large.Since you dont have a sub,the way you have them now i would say is correct. But would change the 100 to 60.By the way did you ever compare the lcr60 to the lcr600.I think most will tell you that the lcr600 would of been the better match.Hope i helped

I would set the crossover at 80hz and leave it that way for the center and rears. You do have it set so it should push all LFE and anything below 80hz to the Left and Right Main speakers.

Sounds like you have it set up right to me.

With having the crossover set at 80Hz, you want to make sure your speakers all play into the ~40Hz range, so you will have seemless transition between the higher and lower crossover points.

Does the 40Hz requirement depend on the slope used for the crossover? Any idea what is typically used in home theater processors? 6db/12db/18d/36db?

In the car audio realm, crossover slopes are usually detailed, don't always see that in home products.

Cool, thanks for the tips guys!

I went with the LCR60 (it was my first purchase) and the main motivating factor was price, followed by room size. At the time (and now) I am in a rather small space. I can't say that I regret the decision so far, but I don't push my stereo all THAT hard (yet).

The store I bought the LCR60 at has a trade in policy, unfortunately I moved far away from that store, so in the event that I feel that its underpowered I either have to sell it at a local store, ebay or buy new, but I think if it came to that, I'd probably make it a rear center

Kyle, given the capabilities of you mains, and your lack of a subwoofer, I would consider setting all speakers to large as I don't feel the 603's go low enough to be usefull as a sub, and they certainly don't need any extra bass.
By setting each speaker to large - you are not redirecting any bass from the other speakers.

However if you watch movies in DD or DTS, there's the LFE Channel which, given a lack of sub gets directed to the large speakers - for that reason alone I would consider buying a sub, even if it's a $100 place holder to use until you have money for a better sub.

            Just my 2C.

And your 1068 kicks ass by the way!

basement: I was thinking something along those lines. My main problem is my "champagne" taste, i hate settling on something that I know i'm going to want to upgrade in a short amount of time I have had my eye on one of the velodyne spl subs for a while now, although I have been hearing good things about.. srs is it? one of the smaller companies that seems to get a lot of online press.

I wouldn't really know how much the 1068 kicks ass because I just got it yesterday, and my 1075 hasn't arrived yet! I got it hooked up to a spare video input to tinker with the OSD and program the remote and thats it!

Less than a week till its go time

Kyle, that's cool, I think you'll like the 1075 too. The company you were refering to is SVS.

I agree about the temporary thing - if you can get something better now, that is of course better - I hear people talking all the time about the SCS 25-31PCi which is $550, I also hear of people likeing HSU subs.

One good thing about buying a semi makeshift sub - many people have two subs in their systems. If you bought a 25-31 now, you'd likely still find a use for it if you bought a bigger sub later.

On the other hand, if you think it's going to be a while - pick up one of those $100 8" sony subs at best buy the next time you get a 10% off coupon in the mail. People love those things - yeah they probably suck, but if you look at user reviews on audioreview.com you'll see people really like them - and resale value doesn't matter - the most you're out is $90! I bought the 12" 150 watt one and it held me over for a year.

In the past two years I went from :
                dedicated two channel stuff
                to
cheap $500 kenwood thx recvr, using unmatched speakers for front, center and surround, no sub, then the sony sub
                to
                THX dipole surrounds, wall mounted
then Matched paradigm reference Studio speakers for front and center
then the Paradigm servo 15 sub
                and
                most recently
                Rotel 1075
and I went with the 1056 instead of the 1068 cause I wanted the tuner and it saved me a little money. (plus I intend to use the 1056 to power zone 2 in the same room, so I can listen to the radio when I play Xbox, or listen to anything other than elmo when my 1.5 year old wakes up early and it's my turn to entertain her)

Any how, point I'm trying to make is I've had champaign tastes also, and I was surprisingly very very happy with the purchase of the inexpensive sony.

Hey PS on the 1050 remote, I figured out the hard way that there's a 3 second delay before it says "OK" I had been programming my 1050 by the book, and I would point the 2 remotes together and press and hold the button on the other remote - turned out the 1050 learned that I had held it down - so when I went to use the arrows, each click was moving a few times!
I had to reprogram the whole thing using just a tap.

This could be a noobie question, however I'm going to ask it anyways. There seems to be a little bit of confusion when it comes to Ideal crossover settings. I Understand that when you select "large" for speaker size, that the speaker receives the full signal(20htz-20khz), and that when you...

I'm a new 1056 owner and have been doing some experimenting with the receiver's crossover settings. I'm a bit curious as to how others have theirs set. I am running B&W 602s3s all around with a M&K MX-125 sub. This is a 5.1 setup and all of my speakers are set to small. I am using high-quality...

Hi, I recently purchased a HSU STF-2 subwoofer to go with my stereo bedroom system comprised of a Rotel RA-01 amp and DM600 S3 bookshelf speakers. I'm wondering if you guys have any advise as to what to set the sub's crossover to.

B&W has the following specs for my 600's:

this may be a really n00b question, but here goes:
can any of the rotels (rsx-1055 in particular) have different crossover settings for different speakers?

i.e.: my front left and rights are rated down to ~38hz, so it would be nice to have the sub kick in at ~40hz for material...

Is it possible to have different crossover seettings on the LFE/SUB? For 2 CH i have set the fronts to small and their HP-filter set to 60 hz and the sub (redirected bass) set to 60 hz. I'm very happy with these settings, but the problem is, when i'm listening to a 5.1 mix, the LFE channel get "chucked"...
