    Rotel 991 question

Can the Rotel THX 991 handle sterio 4 ohm loads or is it best to leave it at 8 ohms ?!?!?!

all Rotel amps should handle 4 ohm loads with easy (with the exception of a bridged 1066)

I have a 991 and am powering a set of 4 Ohm Jamo's with a sensitivity of 87dB. It does so effortlessly. I was quite impressed when I first got it and still am.

the 991 can handle 4 ohm easilly.

Speaker impedance is only an average rating. The impedance can very with the frequency. So a big bass reflex has a impedance as low as 3 ohm on the tuning frequency of the bass reflex port (ie at 30Hz) . But it can go as high as 20 ohms on the resonance requency of the midrange unit.

        take a look at this : http://www.focal.tm.fr/gb/compo/midbass/courbes/images/8w5411.gif

See how at 40hz it reaches almost 80 ohms.

A good power amp, with good power reserves can drive an average 4 ohm load easily. I am always a bit reserved about amplifiers with 4-8 ohm switches. I am unaware of current rotel amps with switches like that. I thought my rb840bx4 had one. But I am not sure.

Was thinking I'm going to use it to power a sub ............... that's has two 4 ohm drivers. So if I'm hearing right, this should be no problem (?!!)

            sure, go for it.

            eh....that will be a sub with 2 x 200 watts power.

probably no neighbours or a house in the middle of nowhere ?

                1056 and 4 Ohm loads
                by shadow
Any members have experience with the 1055/1056 receiver driving four ohm loads? I am considering buying a 1056 to drive a five channel home theater with Martin Logan Aerius and Cinema up front and Axiom QS 4s for the rear. My room is smallish (17 x 13) and I do not listen a very loud levels. Is this...

                Differences in RB-991 and RB-1080
                by Bigus
First, since this is my first post, let me just state for the record that I currently own nine pieces of Rotel gear. I was directed here because members of a more general forum couldn't answer my question.

OK... What are the electrical differences between the 991 and 1080?...

Can the A21 drive 2 ohm loads?
                by MarkAR9LS
                Hi,

I've been lurking for a while now and thought it was time to step out of the shadows.

I was wondering if the Halo A21 amp could realistically drive a 2 ohm load.

                I have a pair of AR-9LS speakers (4 way 5 drivers) that I plan to tri-amp (via a DEQX...

Bridging amps and 4 ohm loads
                by kgveteran
What is it about a 4 ohm load that gives the amp a hard time in bridged mode ?

What if the amp has enough power and the 4 ohm load really only goes from 100hz on up.

Is it that no matter what I do, the amp will be stressed out by this load ?

                This is my project...

have denon 3802 rotel991 and 985 power amps, not really getting the improvement i was looking for rotel powers vs 3802 with 2 channel sterio with b&w cdm1nts, rather than sell denon at a loss and purchase say 1066 processer, all more money,

i was wondering if trying second hand...
