RSP-1098 vs RSP-1068 and THD question

Hi everyone. I've been looking seriously into Rotel components for the HT setup I'm wanting to get together. As of now I really like the features, etc. of the RSP-1098 and from what I've read on here, the better performance (?) it offers along with it's possible upgradability.

The one issue I have with it is that it lists its THD as <0.05% which is obviously good, but nothing all that great.

On the other hand, the considerably less expensive RSP-1068 lists its THD as <0.008% which is impressive.

So, I guess my question is why does Rotel's top of the line pre/pro have 6 times the amount of THD as it's less expensive sibling? Is it a typo on their part? Is it supposed to actually read <0.005%?

Thanks for any advice, tips, help and words of wisdom!!

    Cheers.

Frankly I'd be amazed if you could discern even 0.1% of THD.
Very low THDs can also indicate that a lot of negative feedback is used in the circuit.

I agree 0.1% would be very little, but I wasn't asking about what is audible. Besides, run your signal through enough components and that THD figure will increase each time as each component adds it's amount of distortion to the signal. For instance, your CD or DVD player will add some, then the pre/pro, then the power amp. If the 'goal' is to stay under 0.1%...having one component on it's own adding half of that (especially considering the expense of the item) is just something I find interesting. I am just curious why their top of the line pre/pro has a (IMO) significantly higher amount of THD compared to their less expensive model...unless the figure stated in their specs is a mistake. I would just expect that their flagship model would have the best specs.

        Cheers.

            Preamp choices: RSP1068 or RSX1056 or AVR3805?
            by csuzor
Is the better choice the RSP1068 or RSX1056 for pre-amp duty?

I will add the RMB1066 (in bi-amp mode) or the RMB1075.
I am upgrading from a denon1804 to drive B&W700series in 5channels only (no sub yet)

Being budget limited, choosing the RSX1056 allows me to...

I like to share some of recent experience with my new 3D TV setup with my current Rotel RSP1098/RMB1095 setup. I am hoping this information is useful for anyone with the same configuration out there that are interested to take the 3D plunge.

a/v receivers, about $400... and THD?
            by palmetto
i am chooing between the sony STR DA1000ES a/v receiver and the pioneer elite VSX-41. both are discounted to about $400 and have features that i require (such as 100+W and A/B speaker switching). both have relatively handsome design suitable to the room. 2.1 channel music is 80%, 3.1 ht 20%.

Would the RSP1068 also make a good 2 channel preamp?
            by BKSinAZ
I am a 50% music and 50% movie person with my system and in need of a prepro. For 2 channel music, how is the RSP1068? Not really into buying two preamps.

How does the RSP1068 compare with the RSP1056 for 2 Channel music?

            RSP1068 problem
            by wywong
Hi, my 4 yrs old rotel rsp1068/rmb1075 suddenly drop the right front channel yesterday. I switch the RSP1068 pre-out right and left front connection and the problem will move from right to left. So it definitely mean it is not a cable or rmb1075 amp issue. I try power cycle, unplug the power and wait,...
