i am chooing between the sony STR DA1000ES a/v receiver and the pioneer elite VSX-41. both are discounted to about $400 and have features that i require (such as 100+W and A/B speaker switching). both have relatively handsome design suitable to the room. 2.1 channel music is 80%, 3.1 ht 20%.
one post about the pioneer got me worried about its THD and HISS. and the salesman at two stores that sell the sony did not like the sony for its perceptable sound quality. the yamaha 1400 was suggested (but it sells for more -- $600).
the pioneer is the lowest of its elite series and its THD is much higher than the other elite models. should i be suspicious?
i've looked at the specs and i am confused. can you help me make sense out of the THD and what will sound best? i'd rather stay in the $400 range.
