    RB1080 Advice

I am considering to complement my existing RMB1075 with a RB1080 which will be used to drive the front speakers. I demoed the RB1070 a while ago, but it was not much an improvement on the existing RMB1075 in 2 channel mode. The RB1080 is definitely the one for me. After reading several articles in this forum on the RB1080 I am a bit worried with regards to "hum", fuses blowing, left channel going out, etc. Is there anyone that lives in South Africa that could share their experiences with this amp and whether they have had any such or other problems.

Considering the amount of money this amp will be costing me, I want to make sure that I will not be stuck with a problem and possibly have to compromise once it is bought.

    Any feedback will be appreciated.

I havne't had a problem with fuses on mine that I just got but I did have to fix my satelite cable grounding...though that was a problem before I got the 1080 as my subwoofer hummed as well

      Werner,

I was one of the individuals who had problems w/ the left channel. Turns out, I was wrong and had a bad interconnect. ops: Since then (2-3 months ago) I haven't had any problems and the amp is incredible. My music and my movies sound better than ever. Like you, I was hesitant to pull the trigger b/c of some of the problems I read about in this forum, but I'm very satisified with my purchase.

          Hi

Thanks for the reply on the RB1080. My processor is a RSP1066 which I bought last year Dec. I am very happy with it and have decided to rather upgrade the power amp that drives my main speakers. The RMB1075 I will use to power the surrounds and front/back center speakers. The next step would be to wait for a replacement for the RSP1068 and then replace my RSP1066.

I also had the left channel fuse issue with my RB-1080, however everything seems to be working OK now, I own the RB-1080 and RB-1070, RMB-1075 and can confirm that the RB-1080 sounds alot better than the the other Rotel amps I own for 2ch music, I also own the RSP-1066 and like you will probably upgrade that when a replacement for the current RSP-1068 is released.

                HI Werner,

From another South African (although living in London), I have a very similar set-up. 1075 + 1080 from a 1068. I have to say I don't really have the speakers at the mom to fully enjoy the system but am waiting for bonus time to get some B&W 703's and then I can truely tell you just how good it is - currenlty I have it running on Boston Mircros!!!! On this it is in my view got better seperation than the 1075, and oodles of umph... I had 1 fuse blow once, and replaced with the new higher amp rating fuses and for about 6mnths now no probs. (My unit is an older version with coloured binding posts for 2 speakers only).

                Go for it Boet!

                Rgds Steve.

I have had my RB1080 for six months now and have not had a spot of bother wih it. I use the a 1075 for the centre and rear channels and the 1080 for the front left and right and use the 12V trigger from my 198 to switch both amps. To date, touch wood, no sign of any fuse problems or hum or anything but sweet sounds.

RB 1080 Fuses and Heat (Long post)

I've owned the RB1080 since March 2004. I believe it is what is referred to as version 3-it has the dual "WBT-like" speaker binding posts.
After over a year of use (listening to classical, chamber, rock, jazz at "healthy" volumes) I lost the right channel.

RB-1080 How many fuses per ch?
                    by dinnu
                    Hi Guys,

I am trying to see if I can just replace the fuses on my RB1080 to fix my dead (right) ch prob. I noticed two 6.3 A fuses and I couldn't figure out if they were blown or not. So, I just switched them to see if it would switch my dead ch (i.e., make my left dead and right live)....

I have recently purchased a Rotel and B&W system and have been having problems with the Rotel RB-1080 power amp. The RB-1080 keeps blowing fuses.

                    o B&W 703
                    o Rotel RC-1090 pre-amp
                    o Rotel RB-1080 power-amp....
