Folks,
I have recently purchased a Rotel and B&W system and have been having problems with the Rotel RB-1080 power amp. The RB-1080 keeps blowing fuses.
My system consists of
o B&W 703
o Rotel RC-1090 pre-amp
o Rotel RB-1080 power-amp.
After I took the brand new system home, within ten days, the left channel of the RB-1080 went down. And the next day, so did the right channel.
I took the power-amp to the dealer and they replaced the internal fuses for me. When I took the amp back home that night, the main circuit fuse (the one accessible from the back panel) blew and I could not find a replacement. So I called Rotel in MA. They finally agreed to replace a new amp for me with the 8A-fuse upgrade.
I waited for about a month for the amp to be shipped to my dealer. When I took it back home, guess what, within ten days, the left channel went down AGAIN. I was really mad!!!
So I call Rotel again. This time, they are blaming the RC-1090 pre-amp. Since I am using the XLR connections between the pre-amp and amp, they told me that I need to do a upgrade on the RC-1090. Otherwise, the RC-1090 could blow the power amp. I just CANNOT believe this. Have you guys here heard about this?
Currently, I begin to think about giving up Rotel, at least the pre-amp and power amp I have. However, finding replacements at this price range is difficult. The dealer suggested two systems yesterday:
o Krell KAV-400xi integrated amp
o Cary Audio design SLI-80, which is a tube integrated amp.
I took them home yesterday. We do not quite like the Krell. The Cary audio sounds good, but I am not sure I am ready for tube amp at this point. The cary audio one costs $3000, which is also a big jump in price.
I am also looking at the Rotel stereo integrated amp, the RA-1070. What do you guys think to use that to driver B&W 703? Please DO let me know your comments
Also, if you can suggest me something at $2000 price range, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
-Yukon
