    RB991 or 1080 fuses blowing !!!

Hello everyone, im new here but i couldnt resist, as ive had nothing but blowing fuses since ive owned my RB991 ( same as the 1080 apart from the remote trigger)

So far :my amp was originally driving 4 ohm sub in an enclosed space, fuses would blow on a regular basis, Lots of blame went into the speakers, position and aplication.
Now the amp is driving an 8ohm load, "driving me fullrange speakers", with the lid off, the amp has had three modifications, from rotel uk.

Burst of osc on power up:this was rectified by moving the protection power supply lead.

Whistle noise : this is the addition of a cap on the protection bored.

Ground shifting : my crossover being from car audio has floating grounds so the ground in the amp needed to be changed, this was the shorting of resistors on the input to the amp.

Guess what! the amp is well with in spec, there is no audible problems, it Can drive a 2 ohm load with no fuses blowing for some time, yet while its sitting on idle for a few hours, Sometimes !! it will blow the fuses, this is with the lid open and an 8 ohm load.

I think as this amp has stability problem ( because of the mod's with the oscalation), i recon a little mains spike can cause the amp to to self oscalate at high frequencies and thats when the fuses go.

    Mains filters for everyone !!!

by the way i have 2 981's and 2 850's never had a problem it's just they sound like a bag of shite compared to the 991, always the way.. :-)
If it makes your spine tingle Its hifi.......

Seems that a few people with less than stellar electrical have come to the same conclusion:

It seems the higher quality components you're using the more sensitive they are to everything from interconnects to the electricity they're plugged in to. I guess that's the price you pay for the higher quality components. It wouldn't surprise me if they're designed under the assumption of ideal conditions to get the most out of them. You could liken it to buying a high performance auto. The manufacturer designs the engine based on high octane fuel to get the most performance out of it... You feed it cheap gas and it will knock and ping all over the place.

      by david cro
I recently bought a pair of B&W Matrix 802 Series 3 speakers on eBay and powered them with an Yamaha 3090 integrated amp. After a few months I decided to upgrade my Amplifier to Rotel Pre/Power and got RSP-1068, RMB-1075 and the RB-1080 (at Rotel's recommendation to power my B&Ws) I don't particularly...

      Hello All,

As a new member, thought I would make my first post after checking the archives. I want to replace my fuses in my older RB-980BX power amp. Does anyone know the values of all five (5) fuses?? If so, I would really appreciate the help. I have checked online and cannot even find...

RB 1080 Fuses and Heat (Long post)
      by cfrahme52
I've owned the RB1080 since March 2004. I believe it is what is referred to as version 3-it has the dual "WBT-like" speaker binding posts.
After over a year of use (listening to classical, chamber, rock, jazz at "healthy" volumes) I lost the right channel.
      A friend,...

      RB-991 keeps blowing main fuse
      by kingwilliam
      Hi all...

The problem: My RB-991 blew its main 12-amp fuse the other day (the fuse you can easily change from the back). I tried 10-amp fuses, but blew three in a row. No other components or speakers were hooked up to the amp. I unplugged the amp from the wall before swapping fuses....
