    RSP-1098 problems!

    Hey all. New guy here.
First I would like to thank you all for a great forum. Lots of good info here. :T

I have a 1098 that is giving me a hard time. In the middle of a movie it suddenly "klicks" and the sound goes out. On the display it comes up with Dolby pro logic. I must turn it off/on before it works again. That lasts about 30-60 min, then the sound goes out again.

I first thought it was heat that was making the problems. I moved the unit to the first shelf on the rack so it got more air around it. But still - same problem. :M Anyone?

Im sending back my Parasound halo C2 due to an oddity like this. Something to do with rectifiying the power supply harness.

Yours being a Rotel, it could be a different issue altogether. Good luck.

It still sounds like a heat issue to me. I know mine occasionally gave me a hiccup before I moved the power amps below it. How much room to breath does it have now?

Check the firmware on it, is it up to date?

If it's over heating it sounds like you've done your best to give it room to breathe...so I would be tempted to contact rotel and have them look at it.

Before we go running off to Rotel, how about contacting your dealer for advice and guidance. That's what the dealers are there for.

Are you using the 12v triggers for your amps? I was having a problem with the amps kicking out and contacted Rotel, who told me that it sounded like I had a faulty trigger relay. They said to send the unit in to have the relay replaced (gratis - 5 year warranty on parts). I never did send it in, because I haven't wanted to be without it for however long the repair will take. I simply unplugged the triggers and I turn the amps on manually. Everything works great that way.

              Don't use 12v triggers.
The thing is I bought the unit in Sweeden 1 year ago. I live in Norway now.
If i send it back to the dealer it would take very long before I get the unit back.
If you look at the pic I have attached, does it look like the unit need more air around it? Under the 1098 is a htpc and a standalone dvdplayer. (the htpc is watercooled so no heat is coming from the shelf under the 1098 )

The 1098 is getting very hot at the right back side, rest of the unit is pretty cold.

That should be plenty of room for it I would think! I still think there's something else going on with it...

                  Mj12,

Sorry to hear about your 1098  .

It looks like you should have enough space around the preamp that heat should not be an issue. I'm glad to see that it's not located above those amps of yours! (water cooled rack!!! How cool is that?!)

Good looking set-up... What a mix, Electroacompaniet and Rotel!

I'm assuming you have already tried out a new digital cable to make sure it is not at fault?

I had an NAD Reciever that I used as a preamp which behaved the same way. It went to the shop three times for a total of 7 months in the shop over the two years I have owned it. Each time it came back, the service statement reported that they had replaced and adjusted the power supply? (Kinda like the problem spoonman suggested) I just got it back again last week. I hope it has been fixed once and for all. (It was replaced by a RSP 1068 almost a year ago :T ).

Best wishes for a speedy recovery,
                  Cracking!

                    Problem fixed!

                    :B

Cracking Oboe you where almost correct. It was not the digital cable, but the coax input 1 that was malfunctioning. :T
Started to look at the cables then i noticed that the coax input 1 was not sitting right. So i changed it to coax 2 and everything is fine.

                    Thanks for all help!

                      Yay!

                      I'm glad to hear your 1098 is O.K. :T

If you don't mind my asking, what damaged the coax input?
Was it a thick and heavy coax cable?
I have often wondered if my Rotel equipments RCA's are groaning under the weight of some of the cables... and they aren't close to how heavy (or expensive) as many can be.

I use Taralabs RSC Air Digital 75 coax cable. Don't think its the weight of the cable that damaged the RCA on the Rotel. Mabye it was like this from the dealer.
But I think Rotel could have used some more money on theyr rca input/outputs on the 1098. They are pretty standard and if you have rca cables that use some sort of lock its easy to damage the rca in the rotel.
Since this is rotels top-of the line dsp.
So i hope next time they release a dsp they would use WTB rca inputs/outpurs like my electrocomaniet amps have.

I like to share some of recent experience with my new 3D TV setup with my current Rotel RSP1098/RMB1095 setup. I am hoping this information is useful for anyone with the same configuration out there that are interested to take the 3D plunge.

I had not been very active in the last couple...

                            Video problem with RSP1098

Has anyone had or heard of any problems with the video output on a 1098.
Mine has just started to fade in and out intermittantly. Picture doesnt disappear completely just starts to fade out momentarily and not all the time.
If I use component cable from DVD direct to screen not a problem....

I've placed my rotel as recommended by rotel but still it's hot to my opinion.

The placement is such that the sides are very close but there is a distance made with wood so there is absout 5 cm of air gap below and about 15 cm above and no front/back cover.

                            Still the rotel...

Audio Hiccup or Pauses in RSP 985
                            by Rotel4Life
I've had just about every Rotel PrePro since the early 90s. RSP960, RSP980, RTC970, RTC965 etc., and many many different power amps. I just got rid of my rtc965, replaced it with a rsp985 as I needed something physically very small and would work well with my trust rb985. Gotta say I have NEVER had...

Can anybody tell me if this is normal..?When I use my sub and use the crossover filter in the RSP1098 the sub makes a popping sound every time the RSP1098 clicks from dolbydigital to 2ch and back, and when I change the input from cd to tuner and other settings?
