    Gonna try 7.1

Hey all, thought I wought try a 7.1 setup to experiment with. I am going to use a 100W receiver to power the two extra channels, and I am a little confused on how to connect it. I assume I would connect the RSP-1068 center back outputs to the receiver, but where? Maybe to the main in, or to the surround main in on the receiver? Then out the surround speaker out of the receiver. Next, what input to select on the receiver when watching movies..........very confusing.

Okay what 100watt receiver are you going to be using, does it have multi-channel inputs on the back?

    Here's how I'd do it...

I'd take the pre-outs from the 1068 for the rear channels (Center Back outputs) and connect them to the Multi-channel inputs on the other receiver as the main L/R. Then hook up your speakers to the main speaker binding posts in their respective order. Then calibrate all levels (turning the volume on the 2nd receiver) to get them all balanced. Then you should be able to control your volume with just the 1068.

If you don't have Multi-channel input, then hook it into say the CD/Video/whatever connection and do the same thing with the calibrating. Then just leave the second receiver onto whatever input you used (Video -> Video input).

That's all there should be to it. Just remember to properly calibrate it all with a sound meter.

I have multi channel inputs but what source do I select on the receiver? Hooking to the main-in will send signal, but how do I select the source to listen to.

          What receiver is it?

There should be a multi-channel input button the unit itself or on the remote for the unit I would imagine....

Some of the older units said Multi-channel input/Tape Monitor I believe. Try that! You could also try playing something and flipping through the available sources until sound comes out of the unit.

Like hook up the main pre-outs from the 1068 to the old receiver until you get sound!

It is a Nakamichi AV-1 with main-in jacks for all five channels, but I am thinking of running the left and right center backs to a CD input. Why is the Tape/Monitor always the choice? Is that input less modified in the way of contour? Seems that jack is widely used for extras. I think tinkering with inputs and selecting sources is what will happen though.

Sounds to me if you have "main-in jacks", those are direct inputs to the power amps and would bypass the preamp?

If that is the case, you would not be going through a second preamp stage, which would be better. Then, it wouldn't matter what input you have selected, since you're bypassing the preamp anyway.

the 1068 comes from teh factory set for 6.1
you will need to trun the cb2 output on in the set up menu. I set mine for "LARGE2", which turns it on."LARGE1" will have CB2 turned off. this is NOT very clear in the instruciton manual.

Thanks Ken, didn't knnow that. I guess both CB1 and CB2 will be set to Large2? Have not been in menu as of yet to check it out.

Yes, you want to use the main-in jacks as a first course, because that won't try to do any preprocessing and is just a pass-through to the amp. Then you get your volume adjusted on the nakamichi so that's it's calibrated with all the other speakers and you should be good. The same way you calibrate a sub with all the other speakers by using the volume control on the amp for the sub.

Same thing, just different application and you should be all good.

See I didn't know what Ken said, so it's good that he chimed in.

Main IR Input - What am I doing wrong?
                      by dschamis
I am tring to use the Onkyo IR system (with the IR receiver, connecting block, etc.) to control the RDC7's main input from another room. For some reason, when I connect a cable from the connecting block to the Main IR INPUT on the RDC7 I get nothing.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong?...

                      RSX-1055 multi-input Bass/sub strange behavior
                      by Pitou5
                      Hello,

I just upgraded my rsx-1055 to the latest version which is 2.30.

Now I'm not sure if it's a side effect of this firmware update, but when using the multi-input, I can increase or decrease the sub level and I can really hear it.

                      I'm using the remote...

Newbie here, didn't know where to post this question.

I recently purchased a Harman Kardon AVR240 as well as a Behringer EP1500 to power my subwoofer. I have connected them from the subwoofer pre-out on the receiver to the behringer input through a shielded male-to-male rca cable which...

Shootout : Parasound C2 vs Rotel 1098 (long)
                      by DrBoom
Well, it's been almost 2 months now that I've lived with both my Rotel RSP1098 and my Parasound C2 and the time for deciding which I'm going to keep is almost at hand.(not that I HAVE to decide now for some reason, but I'd hate to end up with 2 processors permanently)
I actually own both of them,...
