RCD-1072 vs RACD-02

G'day,

I was in a hi-fi store the other day, and mentioned that I had the Rotel RCD-1072 CD player. The sales dude then mentioned that I "did not have Rotel's top of the range cd player", and proudly pointed to a RCD-02 CD player in the corner.

I scoffed at this, but the sales dude was adamant, and I didn't pursue it any further, quietly confident that I was right and allowing the sales dude his delusion.

But looking at the specs for the RCD-1072 vs the specs for the RCD-02, I can't really see much of a difference, theoretically.

So, apart from the RCD-02 being a couple o' hundred bucks cheaper than the RCD-1072, what is the difference between these two models? Was the arrogant sales dude right, or can I go back to this store armed with further info and get some satisfaction?

The "sales dude" was wrong. The RCD-02 is in Rotel's Euro Series which is their step down models from the 10 series. Nearly everything is different:

• Sound - an A / B shows the RCD-1072 to be much more lucid and musical than the (still very good) RC-02
• Transport
• DACS
• Op-Amps
• Power Supply

The RCD-1072 is the Rotel top of the line CD player at the moment. It uses better internal components than the RCD-02 does and it uses dual op-amps. I think that the DACs are the same in both but the 1072 has a larger power supply.
