    RSX-1056 Advanced Bass Management

Looking at buying the RSX-1056 but have a few questions regarding bass management.

In the owner's manual, on page 39, 3rd column under Advance Speaker Setup it says "SPEAKER(front/center/surround/center back/subwoofer): ....."
If you select subwoofer as the speaker to setup, it doesn't make sense to select small or large so what options are available?

Anyone know if the crossover slopes are 12dB 24dB etc?
What about the frequencies which the HF & LF contours begin?

Do the USER DEFAULT settings remember all the advanced bass management settings? How many defaults are typically possible?

In advanced setup when crossovers between sub and speakers don't match what happens in the following 3 scenarios:

    (1) Small front speakers with crossover set at 60Hz, crossover for subwoofer set at 40Hz.
What happens to frequencies between these settings? Do they go to the sub anyway or are they lost?

    (2) Large front speakers, crossover for subwoofer set at 40Hz, small centre/surround speakers with crossover of 80Hz.
Do the frequencies between 40 & 80Hz for centre/surround go to the sub, the large fronts or are they lost? Does this depend on whether the Sub is set to YES/MAX?

(3)Small front speakers crossover at 60Hz, sub crossover at 40Hz, Small(er) centre/surround speakers with crossover at 80Hz.
Do the centre/surround frequencies between 60 & 80Hz go to the larger front speakers and then the frequencies below 60 go to the sub?

    Thanks

    Pwoda,

Yes this is an area of much confusion. Bottom line the ADVANCED SPEAKER setup can override the crossover for that speaker and the matching subwoofer setting in sync. Bass is NEVER lost unless you turn the crossover OFF. Think of it this way - the normal SUBWOOFER setting sets a high pass filter at the specified frequency for any SMALL speakers with the bass below that for that speaker being sent to the subwoofer using a matching low pass filter. When you use the ADVANCED SPEAKER setting the cross over change affects both the SMALL speaker you have selected and the way the bass for that speaker is sent to the subwoofer. IE each speaker’s bass is processed separately, summed together and then sent to the subwoofer, so each can have a different high / low pass combination if required.
Anyone know if the crossover slopes are 12dB 24dB etc?
I believe (99% certain) that they are 24 db both ways
Do the USER DEFAULT settings remember all the advanced bass management settings? How many defaults are typically possible?
Yes the USER DEFAULT remembers all the settings, including ADVANCED speaker settings. Only ONE deault setting is saved - you can save it or restore it...
