Yes, you will need a pre/pro. Example: RSP-980 or one of the similar preamp/ processors. I would assume your'e RA-931 is an integrated amp? If so you have 2 channel only capabilities even with your'e RDA-980. I had entered into Rotel with their RSP-980, RDA-980, and RDA-985. The current surround processors are hard to beat although the RSP-980 had analog 2 channel that was hard to beat.- Bottom

One of his bugaboos was output noise, and noise that could...-

by stevecussHi Folks,
I have an older RSP-980 surround processor driven by an RB980BX 2 channel amp. I run a pair of kit speakers and a powered sub and use it for music, tv, dvd etc. I'm very happy with the sound quality, but the processor is pro logic and not digital.
A local...-
