    Rotel 1056 or Rotel 1075 w/Yamaha RXV-1400

Hello, I am new to this thread and will definately be a Rotelian pretty soon, just need help on deciding which will be better for me, a Rotel rsx-1056 or a Rotel 1075 with a Yamaha RXV-1400 as the pre/pro.

Couple things about my situation :

    1. Cost will be about the same since I already own the rxv-1400
    2. I will only be using a 5.1 setup, not a 7.1 or 6.1
    3. 99% Home Theater
    4. I live in a Condo with a 13x22 size room for the HT
    5. I am using 5 Acoustic Research Phantom 8.3 speakers
    6. I probably won't be blasting the volume way to hight since I live in a condo

    Please help me decide.

Interesting choice. If you have no reason to move to 6.1 or add a second zone the 1056 might be all you need. You could always add the amp later should that arrangement change. That said if this system is purely Home Theatre what display do you have? You might consider keeping the yamaha and putting the money towards a projector or larger TV which IMO will give you a bigger WOW factor then a new receiver for movies.

I've highlighted the 5 reasons that tell me you should get neither. Personally I would sell of your speakers and use the money along with what you've budgeted for the rec/amp and get new speakers. Or upgrade you tv depending on the size you have right now.

Currently I have a 60v500. Hitachi's 60" Rear projection LCD (which by the way cnet.com just rated as best lcd based rear projection TV).

I really don't think I need to go bigger than a 60" for a room that is 13x25. (Some might say it's too big for a room that size, not me  )

Also, I heard that the Acoustic Research Phantom 8.3 are good speakers. (I wanted something that looked good as well as sounded good).

The ARs are fine speakers. I assume you have heard and liked them.

I'll second that. Aslo if your speakers have 2 sets of binding posts on the back then I would pick up some extra wire and passive bi-amp.

What do you mean by passive bi-amp? Sorry for the silly question. Bi-amping is a topic I have heard of but not one I am familiar with.

Sorry guys, don't mean to be a d*ck,:B but can we jump back on topic. So far I only got one person's opinion who voted for the 1056. Anybody else have experience with the 1075 and a pre/pro vs. 1056.

                  Thanks.

Sorry, you're right.... I can often get off topic.

I currently have the 1075 and the 1066 pre-amp. I ended up with the 1066 just as they were introducing the 1068 and got a fantastic deal on it. Just before I bought these I owned the 1400 too. I only had it for about one month... made a bad purchase and had to pay (with my wallet) for it. I have never looked back since my move to seperates and my move to Rotel.

I have no experience with the 1056 so you have to decide if the extras you get with the reciever will outway the benefits of a seperate preamp.

You can do no wrong by purchasing this combo or the 1068.

                    :T

I had the rxv1400 before I purchased the 1056. In my opinion the 1056 provides a more detailed sound with better clarity than the 1400. Since you will not be (blasting the volume) because of your living environment, you could get the 1056. Sell the rxv1400 and use that money towards a better dvd player or a 2ch amp down the line. I have the 1080 powering my fronts.

If your speakers have 2 sets of binding posts on the back and you have enough channels of amplification(eg: I have 12 possible channels) then you use 2 channels to power one speaker. With my example I use 4 of the 5 channels on my NAD S250 to bi-amp my Front L/R. I split the signal coming out of my FL preout on my PIO 56TXi going into the FL/RL inputs on my amp. Then I run speaker wire from the FL channel on the amp to the upper binding post(tweeter) and the RL channel on the amp to the lower binding post(bass/midrange) I do the same thing for the Front Right speaker by splitting the FR preout going into the amps FR/RR inputs, etc.

By doing this I give a path for current to get to the tweeter and mid/bass drivers without interfering with each other as they fight for current like they would with a single run of speaker cable.

Sorry guys, don't mean to be a d*ck, but can we jump back on topic. So far I only got one person's opinion who voted for the 1056. Anybody else have experience with the 1075 and a pre/pro vs. 1056.

Actually I did give you my opinion on what to do. From the description off your setup as well as housing there is no need to upgrade unless your dissatisfied with your setup as is.

The 1056 is a very nice sounding receiver. After a month's break in it gets even better. Not a lot, just a more integrated and inviting sound. The qualities I hear may not apply to you since your speakers are different. I've heard the 1400 which sounded slightly thin by comparison. Not that the 1056 is bass heavy, which it isn't at all.

Plenty of power for sane listeners.

Just keep in mind there is potential hiss with certain speakers so try it out with yours first! There are other quirky things like popping noises during changing some menu settings and possible hum (which I don't have). The sound is great but it's the little annoying things that may give the impression it's not a refined product.
