    Hi, i´m new here - 1056 question

    Hello,

first i want to say: sorry if my english is not so good, i´m from germany and usually i only speak german but i give my best.

Ok, i intend to buy a av-receiver (my first) and i thought either the "Denon avr-3805" or the "HK avr-630" should be the right thing for me -70% music, 30% movies.
After testing both receiver at my dealer i know that the sound-quality in stereo-mode from both is not enough for me.
By reading some av-forums i found the "rotel rsx-1056" which seem to be very interesting and i guess this will be the receiver i´m looking for.

    And now to my question:
in some german av-forums some people say that the rsx-1056 sounds a little bit flat. They say the 1056 sounds really great, the bass is thin.
Can someone here tell me if this is right, please ?? i hope it´s not.

    thx & cu

    Core,

I recently purchased a 1056. I did test the 3805 but not the HK 630.
IN MY OPINION the 1056 provides more detail and clarity over the 3805. While the bass is not overwhelming, it is cleaner sounding than the bass of the 3805. I would not call the bass thin at all. If you could audition both of them you may see that for yourself.

      Hello,

I am from Holland and I own a 1056 and I think there is bas enough.
I Play with front speakers off MB-Quart (qlc604) and i compared the rotel with arcam avr300 and Marantz 6400 and especially in stereo its much better then the marantz Arcam is good in stereo too but has less power.

      greetings

...I think saying that the 1056 is flat and thin on bass is well.....coming from a very inexperienced listener...IMO

First Welcome...and your english is great!

The thing is there are way too many factors involved to say such a blunt statement...

Are the speakers so ineffecient that the power of these receivers are just not enough ?

Is the source a good match with the rest of the ensemble ?

I own a 1056....while I have a completely separate 2 channel rig......I must say I lasted a while with the 1056 in 2 channel stereo "mode"....it has balls.....you just have to have speakers and a source to match it well...

I have a buddy (actually a member here at the guide) He has 604 B&Ws with a 1055......and a cd5i source from Naim....let me tell you that before that source there was a lot missing....once that entered the picture they all began to sing....

        Anyways just my 2 cents!
Got a nice rack to show me ?

Hi there Core, and welcome to this forum.

Back in july I too had to choose between the RSX-1056, the Denon 3805 and others. Here is a fragment from a review I found in the july 2004 issue of Home Cinema:

          The contenders:
          - Arcam DiVA AVR300
          - Denon AVR3805
          - Harman Kardon AVR630
          - Rotel RSX-1056
          - Yamaha RX-V2400RDS.

          Final scores:
          Arcam: 87%
          Denon: 90%
          Harman Kardon: 92%
          Rotel: 95%
          Yamaha: 89%

          Some quotes:

"For the best stereo sound, I'd go for either the Arcam or the Rotel"

"The Arcam has definite appeal to those for whom the mass-market Japanese brands are run-of-the-mill: it looks and sounds pleasingly different, combining a big, smooth presentation of both DVD soundtracks and music - whether in stereo or processed with Pro-Logic - with more than enough clout to make full-on action movies impressive......but as a relative compact package that offers fine movie ability and a convincing sound with music, it'd make a good partner for a player such as Arcam's DiVA DV79"

"But as if to prove that you really do get what you pay for, it's the Rotel that just edges it - yes, even though it's the only one here not to come with seven-channel amplification on board. Simply, this reciever has a directness and clarity of sound that goes beyond the abilities of the rest, and that's true whether it's used in standalone 5.1-channel trim or pumped up to seven channels with the addition of Rotel's not exactly huge RMB-1050 stereo power amp."

"The Rotel is one of the most expensive recievers here in standard form, only the Arcam costing more, and adding the RMB-1050 makes it 250 pounds more than the AVR300, but having spent considerable time living with all five contenders, I reckon the extra money would be well spent. Nothing else in this group communicates surround soundtracks quite so directly or is able to cath one unawares with exciting or unnerving effects. Similarly, the character and intelligibility of dialogue via the Rotel is a delight, so that even the most script-heavy movie isn't hard work. Add a crisp, clean sound when you hook up a high quality multichannel audio or CD source, the RSX-1056 providing the kind of musicality that has earned Rotel a good name for many years, and you recognise that this reciever is an all-round success. As I keep stressing, any one of these recievers has the wherewithal to please a seruious home cinema enthusiast - but the Rotel is a little bit special."

Yes, it is and will always remain a magazine review and the results can only be seen as the reviewer's impression. Nevertheless, overall it did comply with the impressions I had after a few demo sessions.

          Hope it helps a bit.

          Good luck!

ps: yes, I ended up with another setup, but that's another story

RSX 1056 firmware update and bass management

I just completed my Cobalt S set of loudspeakers with a JM LAB Cobalt SW 27A subwoofer (secondhand) and had the help of an experienced friend to calibrate it.

I have an RSX 1056 and when he saw the OSD menu, he told me that I was using an old firmware and that updating it will help to...

              Rotel 1056 vs Denon 3805
              by theMaximus
Has anyone had chance to listen to Rotel 1056 and Denon 3805 side by side? I'm currently waiting for 1056 to arrive at my dealer, but after reading a stellar review for Denon 3805 on What HiFi magazine, I'm having second thoughts. Their prices are virtually the same (only $100 difference), and Denon...

              Rotel 1056 v. Denon 3805
              by Scherr
I have a Denon AVR-2800 running Paradigm studio 40's, 20's, and CC, v.2, and a PW-2200. Since the Denon 2800 only has preouts for the fronts and center and I use the "B" speaker input for a second zone so I need a new receiver rather then adding just an amp.

              I am leaning toward...

Rotel 1056 or Denon 3805 with power amps?
              by Shockabuku
Hi @. I also posted this on the AVS Forum (hope that isn't bad form!), but I'd be really interested in the views of Rotel fans (maybe not so impartial though :W )

I'm in the market for a receiver & after some demos have narrowed the choice down to the Denon 3805 or Rotel 1056....

Is combo rsx-1056 + rb-1080 good for both HT and stereo music?
              by audiofan
              Hi,
I've just bought rb-1080. I was just wondering whether rsx-1056 is good enough for HT (as i only use the system for HT about 20%, 80% is for music). i currently have denon 3805 (plan to sell it and get rsx-1056), Axiom M60 speakers, and my listening room is 12x14. Since rsx-1056 is 75wpc,...
