    Upgrade Paths

    Hi,

Got a question about upgrade paths. I have an early receiver (RSX-965), mind you it does DTS and has a 5.1 analog input. Bass management in DTS, and in DVD-Audio is an issue (not in DD). Because I want to use the sub (Servo-15) in stereo I have my mains out going to an X-30 Xover and can extract the .1 by selecting mains=large and sub "no". In DTS all channels default to large so depending on the mix, some DTS titles are bass shy. Should I live with it and buy a 5 channel amp, and use the 965 as a pre/pro, or get another receiver like a 1056? I wouldn't keep the 965 forever, just a few more years. What would you do?

What I'd do is sell the 965 and then upgrade to the 1056. Either that or keep the 1065 and add a 1068 pre amp utilizing the amps in the 965 for the time being and later replace that with a 1075 or 1095. That's obviously a lot more money though but it falls in line with your last comment about adding a power amp.

The 965 doesn't have pre-ins on all channels (only on mains). Could I use the 5.1 input even though it's a DB25 connection so I could use the amps only? This just dawned on me, might be a stupid idea.

How much in CDN$ would a RSP1068+RMB1075 combo cost nowadays?

I'm not sure what the 1068 lists at but the 1075 is $1499.99 cdn so take 10 percent or so off that for a typical in store price.

You should be able to use the DB25 connection so long as there's no bass management on the 5.1 inputs.

I was just at a dealer and he reminded me of my old RSX 965. I had it and there was a distinctive hum being generated somewhere and it sounded like a grounding issue but I couldn't get around it. Finally after much complaining my Rotel store took it in to be fixed and the tech guy said it was definitely...

I'm a LTLFTP (long time lurker, first time poster). I just replaced my old RTC-965 with a RSP-985 (sorry but that's all I could afford). Is it me or did I just make a quantum leap in sound quality for both 2ch and 5.1 (using DTS/THX)???

Second question. I literally BROKE the main...

I finally spent the day getting the home theater hooked up in our new SC house. And discovered that my workhorse P-965 isn't working. It powers up, the display lights up and it goes to the selected input if an input button was used to turn it on, and then nothing. No sound, and no buttons or remote...
