Multi-channel input question

OK, I know this input passes a signal straight to the volume control. I also know that the volume attenuation is done in the analog domain. So if the multi-channel input is used, will the volume attenution settings that are selected in the speaker set-up menu come into play, or will the RDC-7 simply by-pass this completely? If the latter is true, I would then need to balance the speaker outputs in my Pionner 47A as opposed to using a fixed gain level, right?

While your "default" speaker distance and relative level settings are not used with the "multichannel" input/output, the relative channel volume levels can be adjusted using the remote's "on the fly" adjustment controls (page 57 "Instruction manual"):

Enjoying the multichannel output

Before you can use a component with multichannel
output, you must first select “Yes” for the Multichannel
setting in the OSD menu for that input source: Input
Setup →Multichannel Setup (see page 38 ).

1. Press the input source button for the
component with multichannel output
connected to the MULTI CHANNEL INPUT on
the rear of the RDC-7.

2. Turn on the connected component and start
playing the desired media.

3. If necessary, press the CH SEL button on the
remote controller to select an individual
speaker. Then press the LEVEL + or – button to
adjust the output level as desired.
Adjust the speaker output levels so that you can
hear the same sound level from each speaker at
the listening position. For the front right, front left,
center, surround right,surround left, surround back
right and surround back left speakers, the output
levels can be adjusted between –12 to +12 decibels.
The subwoofer can be adjusted between –30
and +10 decibels.

4. Adjust the volume with the MASTER VOLUME
dial or the VOL buttons on the remote
controller.

"CH SEL" is labeled "8" on the face of the button and "LEVEL +" is "9" and "LEVEL -" is "ENT" (the other labels are above thee buttons on the body of the remote).
