Pics of my HT, a work still in progress

    Hi to all,

Well it has been sometime since I last posted, and while the HT is still a work in progress, thought I would post some pics.

The room itself was an unused combined lounge/dining room, so I had solid doors fitted to both openings, then built a false wall to accomodate the screen and electronic masking system.

The false wall is covered in a black fabric and there are two doors which run from floor to ceiling on either side of the screen behind the Dali MS5's that allow access behind the screen to the motor and both masks.

The masks are basically two 3mm MDF panels covered in black velveteen fabric that move between the screen and the screen frame. Both top and bottom masks move via threaded rod driven by a garage door motor that runs off a remote.

The bottom thread is standard thread, and the top section is left hand thread, and when driven they either move outwards or inwards in unison. I have set the timing where one push of the button, the panels will mask the screen for a 2.35 movie and stop automatically. Another push of the button, and both masks will retract and stop behind the screen frame and out of sight for 1.78 movies and HDTV

This has made huge difference to watching movies and certainly was worth the effort; as you can see in two of the attached photos.

I built the riser, which is free standing, and this has blue rope lights running under the lip of each step and is filled with blow in insulation.

I would have preferred to house the equipment in flush with the wall, but with space contraints and the floorplan of the house this wasn't an option, so I decided to build a flexi rack with stainless steel all thread and followed on that theme with a DVD/CD rack.

The Sony 1272 is fixed to an aluminium plate, which in turn is fixed via 6 smalled wheeled chassis' and then simply slid into the unistrut. Because the room is the ground floor room to a two storey house, I had to cut out an access panel about the footprint size of the 1272, to be able to get access to the ceiling cavity of about 1 foot, and fix both unistruts to the bearers. The unistrut spans about six ceiling bearers and are fixed with bolts.

I still plan on doing some acoustic treatments to the room, and all the curtains need to be ripped out and hemmed, leaving about 5mm from the bottom of the curtain to the carpet. At the moment the curtains are all cut to long and they bunch up at the bottom, so they don't sit right. We have been told to let them hang for a little while as they will drop, so this is what we have done. My wife did all the curtains and helped me in many other areas, so kudos to her.

And before I forget, I want to once again thank Peter for doing the voltage conversion and shipping of my two Halos...they do sound great.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask, I do look forward to any feedback.

Oh and before I go, the HT system is:

    Anthem AVM-30
    Halo A21
    Halo A51
    Lumagen Vision Pro
    Toshiba HDTV Box
    Toshiba SD900E
    Energy AS180
    Dali Euphonias MS5's, CS4, AS2 and RS3's

    Cheers Andrew....

I like, Andrew! Simple room that I'm sure is very functional in operation as well. I'm glad that everything worked out for your Halo gear, too!

I've reposted your pics in native size to help out. You know what we want to see here in Club Parasound, though... the equipment stack!!!! You may want to share your pics in our "Spaced Out' subforum of HTGuide here, too!

            Hey Andrew,

Please tell me a little bit about the Dali speakers. How do they intergrate with the Halo amps.

            Thanks
            Vince

Tell me that you use a garage remote to change aspect ratios...that would be unique to say the least.

                  Hi Vince,
The Euphonia's are the premium line Dali's and not only do they look sensational, they sound bloody great too.
I am no audiophile by any stretch, but in two channel the MS5's have a huge soundstage, very clean bottom end and warm, natural highs.
As a surround sound system, the Euphonias provide seamless intergration between each speaker, I guess one would expect this from a speaker with same drivers and tweeter. I am very pleased with the end result.
I can drive them to insane SPL's with the Halo's and there is not the slightest hint of distortion...think my ears would give out before they do.
And yes, the masking system using a garage motor and remote was another one of my hair brain fly by the seat of your pants ideas...but this one works and works well.
It makes a huge difference to the over all punchness and contrast of the image.
                  Cheers Andrew....

                    Choosing a Stewart screen material
                    by denonhtsetup546
I'm looking at a Stewart Screens Luxus Deluxe Screenwall 16:9, but I am not sure which screen material to go with.

My new home theater room is painted dark brown, and there are curtains over any windows and entrances, but I have small children who will certainly make it difficult to keep...

I've recessed my RPTV into the wall so that the screen is flush with the wall. I'm toying with the idea of putting power-openable curtains in front of it and was wondering if anyone had experience with them.

                    by statik
Using an infocus 4805 in a very dark basement room with only one window (blocked with curtains) what gain screen would I want to use.
I can get this room pitch black, even in the middle of the day. Only light would be from lamps, if they are on.
