    Parrasound 2500u setups and ??

I did the normal search before you post and was surprised to find only three or four threads mentioning this pre-amp (just side mentioning it really). Nothing about ppls real thoughts, setups, or helpful hints on this pre-amp.
Is this unit disliked by the community?? Is this an under-rated and over looked beast? Or is it just past it's time and Halo is the only way to go?

I remember reading a lot of reviews on this unit a couple of years ago....all of them being really positive. I wanted to get a little change up from my current pre-amp (Sony TA-E9000es) but wasn't quite ready to spend the $1600 and up price tag. Maybe in a few years, but not at this time. Found this unit at a really good price on Audiogon and decided to get it.

Anyway, I thought I would try and touch base with any of the others out there that either owned this unit or still own it and find out what made this unit shine for you in setting this up. Hints on getting the prefect home theater experience to tricks and things to steer away from.
I.E. - Is the THX option just BS or does it really make certain movie sound that much better? Does the auto-cal work well and/or just use as a base? (mine seems to have trouble calibrating the db of the subwoofer - gives me an "out of range" deal) Etc, etc, etc.

Thanks for your opinions and comments.

Well, that's a model from the previous millennium :B The 2500 is a 1997 model. The later, slightly improved 2500u was discontinued in 2003 if I remember correctly...

Or to put it in other words, this forum doesn't hold any messages from the time when people were actively discussing the 2500u. (The oldest thread in Club Parasound seems to be from 7/13/2003. At that time the C1/C2 were superhot and the 2500u was on its way out...)

True, we started Club Parasound here back in 2003, from what I remember. There still are plenty people out there that own the 2500u, although I don't know if any of our members here own it. I know it's a very well respected unit, and will still perform well for you. I think the Parasound website may still have reviews on it, if you'd like to check.

Thanks guys for the kind words.

I actually bought the unit and just wanted to get a little more insider info. Unfortunately there really isn't anything out there(on the internet, which is why I turned here) to possibly give those hints I was looking for.
I figured that there would be a strong following like on the previous Sony TA-E9000es I owned. Tons on tons of hints, setup proceedures, tricks, etc.

Oh well....I guess I'll just have to live with my choice of getting this millennium fossil And in the end learn it all on my own. Damn.

        Thanks again.

Actually many of the C1/C2 tricks do apply to the 2500u. For all I know, it is not that much different, or is it?

I did a lot of research on the 2500u since I planned on getting one for myself in fall 2004. I was hell bent on getting a black unit and didn't really like the silver Halo styling. However, most dealers were sold out on the 2500u and the one dealer that I found in NYC that still had a brand new unit in stock just asked too much for it ($2100). I ended up getting the C2 since it "only" cost me $850 more than the 2500u and was the latest model to boot...

It sounds like most of your questions are perfectly valid for the C1/C2 and have been discussed in several threads. Do a search on THX. The calibration of the subwoofer distance has the same problem in the Halos too. Again, do a search. This is not a defect, it has to do with room acoustics etc.

BTW, do you have the "sidekick" unit that provides 6.1 ? You can probably pick up one of these very cheap on Audiogon or eBay...

            Peter,
You wouldn't have a Link to those tricks would you?? Or should I just put something equilivant into the search engine?

            Thanks

Yes. Just pretend that you own a C2 with older software (no PLXII and only 5.1 instead of 7.1) :B
The 2500u really is not that different. The C2 adds and improves quite a few features, but general questions like THX and the mic calibration apply equally to both units...

BTW, what the THX function does is that it changes the sound of a THX movie to "fit your room". THX movies are optimized for a really big room (full size movie theatre) and the sound does allegedly not sound as intended in a regular size home theatre. When enabling THX mode, the sound is altered to fit your room (I wonder if the speaker distances are used when the THX software is re-optimizing... That would be cool).

                Hey Peter,

You're going to laugh at this, but I've put in every thing I can think of in the search engine to try and find something (C1 and C2 are not advised...if I had that in my search it came back as nothing). So instead I went through all 22 pgs of Club Halo/Parasound....wow, too much my eyes are now tired and I'm taking a long break from going over the forums :Z

Maybe this info is now gone or lost out there in never-neverland.

                Thanks again for the replies.
