    SACD and 7.1 Setup

My current setup and problems when playing SACD:
    1. Cables (6) from DVD/CD's 5.1 Audio Outputs to C1's 7.1 Channel Analog Inputs
    2. Set C1 source to 7.1
    3. All balanced connections from C1 to Amps.
    4. All other sources work fine with all speakers

Problems: For SACD, sound appears only at center speaker. No sound at L,R and surround L, R speakers.

    Question:
    1. Is the setup correct?
    2. C1's 7.1 Inputs feed signals directly to balanced and unbalanced outputs?

    Thanks,

setup and problems when playing SACD

It sounds right. That's how I have it. 5.1 out of dvd to 7.1 on C1 and all balanced to myA51 and Proceed amps.
Check the setup on your dvd player.
It's been a while but, sometimes, buried in some not so obvious C1 menu, there is something else to set. But from what I remember, if you select 7.1, everything should go.

      Thanks,
Another question: Are SACDs always encoded with 5.1 channels or sometime with 2-channel only? It depends on the CD?

        Sometimes it's 5.1 (labelled "multi-channel"), sometime's it's only 2-channel (labelled "stereo"), and sometimes it's a single-channel only (labelled "mono").

If it's any combination of the above, usually multi-channel and stereo, it'll be labelled "hybrid."

          Hi

the problem may be with the set up of the universal player. You may try to check out if the DSD processing is on. You have PCM stereo responsible for CD then the digital formats giving DD an DTS DVD-audio processing and finally the thing which is responsible for getting sound out of SACD. Check all the parameters related to the sound in the player menu. By the way multichannel SACD done right is the best

          hope it helps

Hi, NAV, here's a banana if you never got welcomed.

I agree, it sounds like a problem with the DVD player output setup, not really the C1/C2. On many players, you have to enable SACD, or put it into a SACD mode, or something like that, to output SACD. And yes, not all SACD's are multichannel.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

I'm reposting this as a new thread since I didn't get any responses to my follow-up post on the "Halo D3 Problems" thread.
My third Halo D3 disc player arrived yesterday. I specifically did not connect it to the PS Audio Premier Power Plant. So far—there are no fried circuits, like...

We'll see if anybody gets any use out of this. I've attached several files in zip format for our club members here. Just click on the attached files at the end of the post if you'd like any of them. I figured that there might be someone that could find a file or two useful, perhaps to either set...

I just got a new Denon DVD-3910. There's parts of it that I really like, but I'm having some problems. I know that several people here on the Guide own the 3910, so I thought you could help out. Several things--

              1. Can't quite figure out bass management with SACD/DVD-A over the 5.1...

The truth about balanced inputs and outputs
              by shuang1234
I have noticed a number of posts disqualifying the Rotel 1098 from consideration due to lack of balanced connections. I stumbled upon a few interesting articles that explain pros and cons about balanced connections.

In a nutshell, unless you have serious noise problems or a high-end system...
