Anyone have JC1's in Entertainment Cabinet? meaning Not in open air..

Ready for some stupidity.... (3) JC1's , (1) A21 , C1 Controller, Denon 5910 DVD/CD. All supposed to fit into a very large and very expensive Entertainment Unit. 11.5 feet wide unit that is 22" deep. I have nowhere to put equipment except inside Ent. Unit. A rack will not fit anywhere close or to the sides. Von Schweikert VR4jr's are too each side of unit which is the last little space i have left. Knew i would probably have to install silent fans on back of console, one low with incoming air and one high with outgoing air. Has anyone used these amps enclosed and had issues with heat?

I have nine (9) JC1s, so let me consider myself an expert :B

The JC1s emit a LOT of heat. However, how much depends on whether they are run in low or high bias.

I've measured the current draw of one of my JC1s. In low bias the idle current is typically 1.2A. In high bias it is 2.4A. In BTUs this corresponds to approx 500 and 950 BTUs respectively.

Three JC1s will constantly emit 1500 BTUs in low bias mode or 2850 BTUs in high bias mode. NOTE, however, that this means they will emit even more heat if you start to push them hard!

Using the Middle Atlantic Thermal Calculator we can calculate that if running 3 JC1s in low bias, with a 75 degree room temperature, you will need 139 CFM of air flow. With a standard Middle atlantic rack, you should be able to get by with passive convection.

However, if you plan to push the amps really hard, then you probably should count on a heat output of 1500 BTU per amp, or 4500 BTU total. As you can see, this will require forced air cooling (fans).

Note that the "chimney effect" is very important in order to get cooling, whether passive or active, to work properly. I recommend that you get the White Paper on this issue. It is very informative.

    Hope this helps.

Here is the entertainment center that i'm using. The console where the 67" samsung DLP 1080p will sit is wider by 11" and has three compartments instead of two like the picture shown. So the C1 processor, Denon 5910 DVD, (3) JC1's and (1) A21 will be enclosed behind glass doors. It will be quite the squeeze.

Ouch! That will be tough! You somehow need to be able to provide a flow of fresh cool air at the bottom that uniformely flows on the sides of the JC1s and is exhausted at the top.

I guess the easiest solution would be vented doors and a bunch of fans at the back should do the trick.

Have you already got the amps? If not, I would strongly suggest that you have a look at Halcro or PS Audio digital amps. They run completely cool.

Yes.. everything except wiring is ready to go by the end of this week. Entertainment center gets here tuesday after waiting 3 months for it. Rear speakers are VR1's run by the A21 amp and LCR15 center off one of the JC1's and front L/R will be VR4jr's with JC1's to each. So everything was done with good research except the temp and depth of Amps. This is my first home theatre system which will also be for everyday use... Still have zero wires and i keep hearing about the Cat wires. Not sure what to do on wiring until i get all components placed and distances measured. If worse comes too worse, i might have to get rid of Entertainment unit or some amps. I already considered that i would have to chop some holes into back of entertainment console and side tiers just so amps will fit.
