I'm wondering how people use their 7.1 inputs. One specific issue I'm curious about is that since almost all DVD players with multichannel outputs only have 5.1 outputs, are people only using 5.1 inputs and leaving the rear surrounds unused? I'm only aware of Onkyo having 7.1 outputs, which duplicates the side surround information into the rear surrounds. Is anyone splitting the side surround channels with a Y-cord or something to send it to both the side and back for a similar pseudo-7.1?

I have a 5.2 system, and I see that I can 'bi amp' to my front towers with the unused surround channels. It looks like they want me to run the speaker cables from the unused channels of the receiver to my towers, but unless I just piggy back the connections, I don't have a way... -
