Monopole or dipole for your surrounds

    Ok, Here is a question.
What will you use or are using for surround speakers and why.
Did you try a different configuration speaker in your home theater setup?
I’m currently running all 4 surrounds monopole speakers (CDM SNT) but thinking on upgrading all to DS7. My setup is used 50% music and 50% for HT
    Any comments on this.

At this time, my rears are a pair of 603's I bought back in '97. I am not sure what i want to do with them to be honest. I have had the same considerations that you are contemplating. I think I want to keep my speakers in the nautilus line though, so I am limited on my options.

I think for 5.1, the monopols are great, but I am not sure if it is as ideal for 7.1.

The dipoles have a switch to turn it off for music listening, so that is a plus.

I was going to wait until I get a house before I worried about my surround speakers, but my fiance is really wanting to do a kitchen upgrade for adding value to the house, so it is really making me think that I should make a decision now and get it before the house. heheh.

I am leaning towards 805's right now, because they would be best for my current situation. I think long-term I would like to have a second set of 804's though.

It is a tough call, and depends greatly on your room. If you have walls on both sides of the room that you could hang speakers from, they DS7, would be great, but for me, since I cant predict that, I am thinking of going for the solution that will work under any circumstance.
I'm just sittin here watchin the wheels go round and round...

        B&W dipole vs. bookshelf as surrounds [DS3 vs 685, DS7 vs 705. DS8 vs 805]
        by videophile
Please help me decide on which surround speakers to get: DS3 or 685? I have B&W 683, HTM61, Velodyne CHT-12R, Rotel RSP-1066 and Rotel RMB-1075. [I'm sure the question can apply to DS7 vs. 705 and DS8 vs. 805]

I know that dipole speakers produce more diffused sound as compared to...

        Hello All,

I am a new member of this forum but I have been visiting it for sometime learning tips and other useful information. Now I need your help. I am planning an upgrade to my existing 5.1 channel system and I have narrowed my choices down to the 804S for the L and R, and the HTM3S...

        DS6 or DS7?
        by Bandwagoner
Just registered to forum today. Long time lurker here. Wondering if anyone owns any of these speakers. Right now i have 705s for fronts, LCR6 for center, 602s for rears. I need to make room for more seating so these surrounds will work well. I really like the monopole/dipole option too. I am looking...

        XO's for DIY dipole surrounds?
        by noah katz
I just read a review (from 2000) in Home Theater Magazine on monopole vs. dipole surround speakers.

        http://hometheatermag.com/bootcamp/25/index.html

Of the several reviewers, all preferred dipoles for rears, and were split on monopole vs. dipole for the sides.

How best to skin surrounds with N803's? SCM1? DS7?
        by PaulG
This is my first post here - glad to have found this place after wearing out the search engines @ Home Theater Forum and AVS Forum (love 'em both, but a B&W only spot is pretty neat!). Especially since I've just ended more than a decade of Paradigm Studio Reference speaker ownership to join...
