I just read a review (from 2000) in Home Theater Magazine on monopole vs. dipole surround speakers.
Of the several reviewers, all preferred dipoles for rears, and were split on monopole vs. dipole for the sides.
What I'm wondering is how the XO is handled.
If only the tweeters are out of phase, that's pretty straightforward, but given that most surrounds XO around 2.5 kHz, it seems that calling them dipoles is a stretch with the meat of the spectrum below the XO.
If the woofers are out of phase as well, how do they keep the bottom end from being killed?
Are there any published DIY dipole designs?
Thanks
