    B&W 683,bass,volume levels

At last I have my tower speakers,I was waiting for years for these speakers.

I have a Pioneer Vsx-519V-K receiver. It is 100W at 8ohm(115 at 6 ohm if I remember right). It's volume levels are from 0 to 80.If I use level 45,40 or less, bass is weak but volume of the sound is good for me.If I turn up the level to 55,bass gets stronger, very good but volume level increases a bit too much,I think it may irritate our neighbours(we are not in an apartment but there are other houses near our house)

Is it a common situation that if the volume level is not high, bass is not strong?By strong bass I mean, feeling tremble inside my body.

Dunno about "feeling tremble inside my body" but the ear is less sensitive to bass at low levels and one cannot know how loud your system is just from those numbers. OTOH, unfortunate speaker setup and room acoustics might be an issue. The position of your speakers and/or your seat may be in nulls or close to them. Your room may have significant nulls in the bass.

Try increasing bass volume use tone control.

Do you mean the settings of receiver?Which settings may affect bass?

I actually did that and sure,it increases bass. But in one of my previous threads, someone had said something like, I should not use bass control just for increasing bass,he said that it was mostly for adding bass to old songs...Also,I heard that some people were against using those type of settings.Additionally, I think professional reviewers do not use those type of settings I think.

So they caused for me a prejudice against using those settings, although I like the result of using them...

No, I meant positioning them with respect to room boundaries to make sure they are not in an acoustically poor spot.

Yes, adjusting bass volume using tone control on your receiver can help.....especially if you are limited with speaker placement options. room acoustics can be very tricky....sometimes the simplest solution is the best. If you like the result, that's all that matters.

Perhaps this can work as a guide for positioning your speakers:

              - Mike

              Main System:
              B&W 802D, HTM2D, SCMS
              Classé SSP-800, CA-2200, CA-5100
