    HTM4D or HTM2Di?

I am moving my 804Ds into an HT setup and need a center channel speaker. My dealer does not have an HTM4Di to audition, and I'm familiar with the HTM2D (have one in another system), so I can imagine what the new version will sound like, kinda.

The HTM4Di is designed to go with the 804Ds, but I was thinking since the center channel speaker is the anchor in an HT system, should I go with the larger HTM2Di or just go with the matched speaker?

    Opinions?

    hi Brook,

your "main system " is with the htm2d and the sound from this last is in your head.
the 2° set is at first for movie or? and now you will see some movie or concert in BD: with the 804diamonts go wiith the 4di!!

personally the 802di with the htm2d is really a good match for the movie.
maybe with the concert in bluray all in new diamont is better...

a new htm2di? uhmm, after a week you keep the "old" htm2d with the 804di and the htm2di with the 803d!

save money and go with the htm4di.

    greetings Omar

Thanks Omar. The other reasoning that I had for asking, is that our family room is large (34'x16' and the entertainment center is at one end of the room. The ceiling is cathedral), so I am wondering if the HTM4Di is large enough?

That is a fairly large room. Your better off with the HTM2Di if funds permit and cosmetically you are ok with the disproportionate look with the larger center and smaller floor stander. Audibly they should be a better match to the 804Di since they use similar drivers.

Maybe a preowned HTM3S would do you better. They do not have the diamond tweeter or newer x-overs but with my 802 Diamond and HTM3s combo, the integration is much better than i thought.

The room is large, but I'm finding that the 804Ds are doing a good job of filling the volume with sound, along with the help of a pair of sub woofers. I spoke with the dealer again today and he thinks I should probably go with the matching HTM4D center speaker as it is voiced the same.

I'll spend time this weekend listening to the system to make sure the 804Ds are going to be satisfying, and if so, I'll go ahead and order an HTM4d.

Now, I need to spend time researching a new 60" TV and either a receiver or separates surround processor/amp. I'm really not looking forward to this, because everything is now so complicated, it's really become a chore setting these systems up.

          Thanks for your input.

            Hi beden1

How does the HTM4D match those 804D's?

I'm currently looking at a similar system but not sure if I want to go with the HTM2Di or the HTM4Di.
The difference in size doesn't bother me, it's more a question about the money

I have this idea that the big difference is how they handle when you crank up the volume, but not the big difference at "normal" listening levels, but haven't listened to the HTM4Di, so I don't know if this is true?

Are you happy with the choice of the HTM4Di, or would you rather have the HTM2Di with the 804D's?

I would personally go for the HTM2di with a room of that size, the single mid range driver of the HTM4 would struggle in my opinion. As you know in a HT setup the centre speaker takes 85-90% of all the soundtrack so it is imperative you have a speaker capable of delivering the goods. Another option may be to have a third 804 speaker if your room layout would allow that to be the centre speaker
I would not go for the HTM4 unless you can have a week long "in house" trial to see if it would be suitable, where you would be able to try all types of film and TV programming and make an informed opinion of it at all different volumes

HI Doubt IMHO I think that the HTM4D is the better match for my 804D(in my room is perfect for his sizes 12 ft x 10 ft); if you room is a big enough maybe the 804D isn’t your best options, every speaker in the 800 series is design to fit a specifically room size. I agreed with kcsun that the HTM2D is a better speaker because his FST mid drivers but IMHO it’s a better match for the 803D and bigger brothers. If money is a breaking point maybe you could get a 803D now and wait awhile for the proper center speaker.

I'm happy to say that after more than a year, I am extremely happy with the HTM4Di with the 804Dis. They blend together perfectly and the HTM4di carries my large room very well. I have not felt that anything is missing with the HTM4Di.

But if you want to do everything by the book, it's the HTM2D you have to go for, right?

I mean, the HTM2D is built to match the floor standing models in the 800 series, with it's bass units and FST midrange, whereas the HTM4D is built to match only the 805D, or..?

The HTM4D is built to match the 804D. I would buy the HTM4D again instead of the HTM2D.

I would love to see the current Canadian price list for all of the Diamond series speakers. I think the MSRP when I bought my HTM2 Diamond last year was around $6,500 CAD. The US MSRP is $5,000 unless it has changed.

Thanks for the clarification in US price. How much are the 802's going up? I'm assuming this will be across the entire 800 series line for the piano black finish? Any idea if the cherrywood and rosenut finishes are increasing as well? My 802s will be paid off in either August or September so if the increase is going to be applied to rosenut I could have to bump my next speaker purchase up to get in under the increase, prodiving it's not just a very small increase. I have been toying with the idea of saving for a few months for a good down payment for the 800s with hopes a sizable amount down will get me a very good price on them. If not I'll just grab a 2nd pair of 802s.

Only the Piano black prices will raise due to the ~70hrs more production time on them. From what I've heard (not anything definite) but it could be another $1k+ added on to the piano blacks and yes, prices across the board for the piano blacks is going up.

Do a good down payment and see if you can get a good half or more finanance on interest free (2yr) to give you time to pay off. That's what I did. In the end I'll have $800 to pay off in my last payment which is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

I would love to be able to do that but unfortunately the financing company used by my dealer really changed up the terms a couple years back and the only interest free offer without any extra charges being applied is 6 months. To go 1 year or more the financing company charges the dealer a hefty percentage which makes it to much for them to absorb thus it is passed onto the customer. The 6 month term is the only amount the dealer will absorb. So for my 802 Diamonds I did the 6 month deal and poured every ounce of cash I could scrape into getting the balance down as low as possible during that time period so that when it expired I would tranfser the balance to my low interest line of credit and that has worked out very well.

What I would love to be able to do is tempt my dealer with a large enough down payment so that with the percentage off MSRP plus the downpayment the balance would be no more than what I paid for my 802s so that when I did the 6 month thing again I would know more or less the cost of interest from my line of credit to pay off the balance once the 6 months expired. If the 800's don't work out I think I'll still save for a bit before getting the 2nd pair of 802s just to save that extra little bit in interest in the end.

replace the Htm2D with the "little" Htm4DI?...

                                      Upgrade from HTM4s to HTM4Di

Following a recent audition of the 805Di and knowing the previous 805s very well, I started wondering the benefits coming from upgrading my HTM4s to a HTM4Di. I found the 805Di a much more transparent speaker with a superb mid range as well as a huge stage. I've always wanted to have a better central...

                                      802d + HTM2d VS 802 di + HTM2di

                                      Hi!

I just upgrade my 705 to 805di but I have the 802d (front) and HTM2d (center). I don't know if my new 805 di will match my existing 802d and HTM2d? I'm asking if it's worthed to upgrade the front and center speakers to the new series or it's a waist of $? Is the new serie significantly...

                                      DB1 and 804Ds (and CP-800)

A question for people with DB1 along with 804Ds.

What settings do you use for them when listening to music and movies?

I'm using with mono XLR input from Classe CP-800 pre-amp. Using the DB1 pre-set low-pass filter to match the 804D then the sub is very quiet at 0db and...

                                      HTM2Di finally in!
                                      by dukester
After a little over a month of waiting, finally got my HTM2Di (replaced a HTM61). Got it last week and have been some SACD/Blu-ray time in. Just after ordering it i became very critical of the HTM61, looking for every flaw i could find to justify the upgrade. Had I not upgraded from the 683's to...
