    Need help

Being a big fan of B&W from my early days of this hobby, I need your help. A few weeks back, one of my Krell 650mc monos sparked and went down. One of the circuit board was burn according to the repair shop. Today, I noticed that the same speaker it was driving, a 801 Nautilus, doesn't produce any sound from the tweeter. I can feel that the midrange is ok though the sound is a little grainy. I am prepared for the worst. I know the tweeter definitely needs replacement but I'm not sure about others (midrange, crossover, sub...etc) I did switching speakers wires and channels with the left speaker to do obvious testing. Please advise...thanks.

The first step would be to replace the tweeter which isnt to difficult or expensive, assuming that they are not the diamond type! The fact that the tweeters are quite easy to damage puts me off buying the diamond models. There are details on other threads on how to replace tweeters. Im sure the other drivers are OK if they still seem to work. The tweeter seems to be the weakest link in the chain, the most easily damaged component. The copper winding wires of the voice coil are very fine, almost like hair so its not suprising they overheat easily. Also, I have discovered a problem with earlier nautilus tweeters which makes them more likely to fail. I have described this on other threads here.
