Currently using a HTM61 paired with 803Ds. Would upgrading to the HTM2 make a significant difference? Is it worth the $4k premium?

I performed the same upgrade several years ago : in terms of sound quality it's a no-brainer as you'll then have matching tweeter & mid (not sure about the woofers but they're probably the same too) which gives you seamless voicing.
With regards to whether it's worth the money, well, only you can decide that ! -
The 683's seemed very boxy to me; sort of feel the same about the HTM61. Since i haven't demo'd one yet, did the HTM2 'open up' more in comparison? Also, I assume you mean the HTM2D. For $3k, I would jump all over it. I believe the list price is $4500.

I know when I went from the HTM61 to the HTM3S the difference was larger than going from 683 to 804S. The sound of the 800 series center channel is worth it more than the front mains IMO, lol. My first impression of the 800 series center channel coming from the 600 series was the airiness and detail (biggest difference to my ears).Comment

I upgraded my HTM61 to an HTM4s with my 804s and that was a monsterous improvement. So the HTM2D should be spectacular.
The HTM61 is not in my opinion a great center match to even the 600 series. I found the 683 an excellent speaker for the price, and I still have fond memories of them. The HTM61 I never think about....Main System:

So I was at my local dealer a couple of days ago and see the HTM61 and since I have the HTM62 and I saw the difference in size I said to myself ...wow that would look good and sound better in my system.WRONG.So I buy it and let it break in for 2 days and then sit down and pop in the new Transformers... -
I just got my HTM3S today and holy clarity and detail batman! There's no comparing the 600 series center to the 800 series! Now I understand why some of the people with more experience with the higher end speakers where always ragging on the HTM61.... The difference is like going from a VHS tape the... -
I am putting the htm2 speaker in with this review because it is the only center that matches these speakers.
The 805 is the cheapest of the Nautilus speakers, if you do not include a stand in the price. When I brought these speakers home initially, I didnt really have very high hopes.... -
I have my eyes on the SSP-300 lately since there is a really good deal I might be able to get my hand on. Do you think it's worth the upgrade? :P
