    802d/MC501 and HTM2d/Rotel 1080..will this be a sound mismatch

Can anyone tell me if I would have a sound mismatch with amping the 802d's with Mcintosh MC501 amps and biamping the HTM2d center with a 1080? I am using a MX120 processor.

    Thank you

    JoeBob,

You will have a tonality mismatch simply because you are using two different amp vendors. You can do this more easily with the rear channels, but the fronts really need to be the same amps. Especially at the level you are considering.

If you are looking at purchasing the MC501's and the Rotel 1080, I would suggest an MC402 and maybe an MC205 (5 X 200 wpc). Your whole system would be Mac, which would be quite cool.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Steve. Sounds like we have similar systems from past postings. Can you tell me the cabling you are using..interconnects and the speaker connects?

Also, a separate question, did you look at Classe before going with Mac? If so, how would you characterize the difference in sound...say a MC501 vs a CAM400?

      Appreciate the reply.

        McIntosh Amps with 802D's
        by Stockinv
I'm considering the McIntosh MC501 mono amps with 802D's for my home theatre. I'll listen to two channel stereo at least twice as much as I watch movies. The 501's are 500 watts continuous power. I currently have a two channel, 200 watt amp and a 5 channel 200 watt amp that I could use for the center...

        HTM2D, HTM1D or 802D as centre?
        by ShadowZA
Assuming that your present front end speaker setup was: 802D (front left) - HTM2D (centre) - 802D (front right) and assuming further that the height and space factor was not an issue if you were to have an 802D for the centre, what would the best setup be from an audio quality perspective regarding...

803D (used) and HTM2D (new) or 802D (used) for the exact same price?

        Thanks,

        HTM1D vs HTM2D experience / perspective
        by joe_s
I believe I've settled on B&W 802D's for stereo / front left and right in a combined music / home theater configuration. The HTM2D would seem to be a upgrade from the HTM1 center in the last series (I've heard the HTM1 and was impressed; I have not yet heard the HTM2D). That said, I'm fairly...

bi-amp HTM2D or just use one channel 300wpc
        by Relentless
I am running my 802D mains with a Bryston 4BSST and I am going to run them with a pair of MC501's. Until I can get another MC501 I want to use the 4BSST for the center channel. My pre/pro does not have bi-amping outputs but I can get a balanced Y cable made or a Y splitter.

        Would I be...
