    Used 805S vs new CM5

I wanted to get some opinions on what would be better money spent.

A set of used 805S or new CM5 speakers? Thanks everyone! -Ewan

You'll certainly save money on the CM5, but a pair brand new will run you $1500. For a few more hundred, you can get a gently used 805s from audiogon. It might be more prudent to go with the 805s since the cost disparity is not that great, but the performance disparity will be.

This is coming from a guy who has a CM series multichannel set-up, and previously had an 805s stereo setup.
A camera, passport, good music, good food and good company is all I need.

I would love to compare the CM5 to my 685. They appear to have the same specs but the cm are made from real wood. My dealer hopes to have the CM5 soon. The 685 to me is just the best "Bang for Buck" speaker. I can't believe I they where just $600.

It depends on what you plan on running them with. The new CM series are fantastic but will require higher grade electronics like Rotel or B&K. Once you go into the 800 series now you at least need Rotel or B&k if not better to hear what the magic is all about.

Personally I'm a CM guy not a 800 guy as I have no plan on going even high end like Classe or Krell. I'm cool with the mid to high end level.

            ewan,

Sonically, this is an easy call, the 805S. As was noted, better electronics will really bring the 805S's to life. But as a place to start, it would be hard to beat the 805S.

            Hope this helps.

Agreed -- this is really good advice.

I puchased a pair of CM1's for my mom over Christmas and loved them. So now of course I need to upgrade my speakers. :

I'm going to be pushing the CM5/805s using MC2105/C28 gear that is going to Terry Dewick for a refresh.

I'm on the upgrade path though, so I would prefer to get a little better gear than my equipment can appreciate, because I'm sure I'll be upgrading more equipment.

I appreciate the feedback and welcome more comments. thanks everyone!

Used 805 for sure so long as the speaker is in good condition. If they are in the same price bracket then its a "no brainer". Not like a CD player or similar where I would steer away from second hand.

Right on point. I would be single I believe if I went 800 and Krell.

Sorry I just had to make another thread and my bad if it annoys the some of you guys..

But this is for someone who's interested in the 685 and especially an opinion from someone that has moved on down from a pair of 805S to 685 and I know money was an issue but wow.. at times I cannot...

                        Upgrade from B&W 685. 703? CM5 S2.

                        Hello,

as a long-time fan of B&W I have enjoyed my 68x-series theatre (fronts: 685, center: htm62, rear: 686 with a BK XXLS400 sub on a Marantz SR5003) for many years now. However, recently I have upgraded my job and now it's time for the speakers to follow suit. I absolutely love...

Welp.. Had to pick my fathers jaw off the ground tonight (more 685 awesomeness)
                        by emig5m
Took my 685's off rear duty tonight to play around with them as front mains to see how they would work with my new sub (which is ironic because just ten months ago I was the most anti-sub for 2-channel music person out there until I learned how to seamlessly integrate). Played a few songs and ran the...

                        685 vs 805s - bass
                        by jack667
                        Hi there,

I need to downsize considerably from my 683s before I move house later this year, so the most appealing option to me is the 805s.

Obviously I understand they are going to be dramatically different in more ways than one, but I'm only after one answer really.....

whole new strategy going to downgrade to the 685 or 683 and sell 805s
                        by jjahshik32
As much as I love the 805s Im considering selling the the 805s and buying 685 or 683. I just came down to the conclusion that I want floorstand speakers and I hear alot of praise on the 683.

I use 85%-90% ht and I hear that the 600 series are great for $$/performance.
