805's Sold, $2k to play with

I sold by 805's for alot more than I paid for them. I want to get some floor standers, and i could spend it all on speakers, or upgrade to some rotel gear, etc and get cheaper speakers.

I have a Sony 777ES Reciever, an XBOX 360 for Digital Audio, and a Yamaha Turntable with a Shure Cartridge.

I was thinking of the 683, 703 or maybe some older 804 speakers.

Any advice? Are the 700 series to old?

I also would like to by the speakers used. They seem to hold value pretty well after the intiital depreciation.

Nope. You just sold what I would have recommended given that you are running a reciever.
    Mac 8gb SSD Audirvana ->Weiss INT202 firewire interface ->Naim DAC & XPS2 DR->Conrad Johnson CT5 & LP70S-> Vivid B1s. Nordost Valhalla cables & resonance management. (Still waiting for Paul Hynes PS:M)

I would say go for the 804.you can always upgrade your electronics later if you feel that it is needed. Since you had the 805 and want a floor stander in the same brand, the 804 gets my vote.

I would be glad to sell you my N804 for more than I paid for them. Deja' vu.

I'd go for the N804 or N803. I think you can get nautilus 803 for around $2k, and those would be a huge improvement from 805.

Does your Sony have preamp ouputs? (I think probably so)

If so, you might consider getting the best speaker you can now then
consider an outboard amp later if you feel the need (probably will)

I'm still happy enough with my 703, but they do like to have some current available to drive them (so likely do the 683 and 804 - pretty much anything in the B&W line with dual woofers).

Where are some places to look for 804/803?

Will i get a big boost in bass compared to N805? I did not want to have to buy a sub.

IMO I think your best bet would be to find a nice pair of N803's and skip the 804's.

                    atchudy,

Yes, you should get a significant boost from the N804's and certainly N803s. I had 705's at the same time as I owned the N804's. The new 705 is comparable to the older N805. The 804 is a full range speaker and it behaves that way. Bass is much fuller.

As for places to look. Audiogon.com is the best place to start. Local B&W dealers might have some used or demo units.

                    Hope this helps.

Wait, so the 703 changed throughout their existence? Are they being replaced?

what changed did the 804 or 805 go through.

I cannot seem to find any on ebay or audiogon for 2k

                        I would question that.
