    B&W subwoofer ASW800 vs 855

I am currently using the ASW800 in my system and have not been following B&W's latest gear. Now I see the comparable sub is the ASW825 and the 800 is no longer offered. I realize a different Xover is being used in the 825, but are there other differences? Does the newer crossover and other? advantages of the 825 really render the 800 obsolete?

It's a totally different woofer. Like all of the current 800 Series the ASW825 uses a Rohacell woofer. The amp is basically the same however.

The ASW825 doesn't make the the ASW800 sound worse just because it's newer/better. Are you thinking of adding a second sub to your system?

Can you describe the advantages of the Rohacell woofer? Does it increase speed? Tightness? Other dynamic aspect? Or is it not really much of an advance? TIA

Nope, no thoughts of adding a second sub. Plenty of thoughts about upgrading to B&W's latest technology. But it's an expensive proposition.

The new Rohacell woofers are stiffer and lighter than the previous Kevlar/paper woofers. I think they are faster sounding and have better deep bass transient response. Since the ASW800 and the ASW850 are both very good subs it might be difficult to hear the difference between them and the new ASW825 and ASW855 unless you hear them in the same or similar rooms. I do think it's a worthwhile upgrade.

          B&W ASW825
          by miner
I am trying to find a B&W ASW800 in cherry to match my existing sub. Since this model is now discontinued (not able to find used) would it be OK to use a B&W ASW825? Difference between the two being the driver cone material - Rohacell (ASW825) vs paper/Kevlar (ASW800). These will be used...

          ASW825 raked over the coals
          by Gremal
After upgrading my N802 pair to 802D and immediately identifying the advantages of the Rohacell/Kevlar cone over the paper/Kevlar, I decided I needed to sell my ASW800 and buy an ASW825. I found one for sale listed in excellent condition and quickly made a deal with the seller. I pleaded with him to...

          Upgraded from ASW675 to ASW825
          by texasbwfan
I finally took the plunge! I traded in my ASW675 for an ASW825. As many have stated on this forum, the difference between the two subs is substantial. The 805S / HTM3S / ASW825 combo is simply fantastic. While I don't have the audiophile experience as most contributors on this board...I will share...

          by chinets
          Hi Ya'll,
As a current owner of a ASW 850 Sub and adding another one for serious HT and Music bass. Would an ASW 855 Have a different Sonic sound or obvious difference in sound than my current ASW 850, because my dealer said he had a perfect condition ASW 850 at half the price of the ASW 855...

          ASW750 Vs. ASW825 which one?
          by Ash
          Hey Guys need your help,

My next upgrade will be the sub. I have an ASW1000 which i'm not very happy with, it gives boomy and undefiened bass. I'm not saying its a bad sub, but it's not that great, especially with music. It's either too low (to avoid the excessive boomyness) or out of...
