I am trying to find a B&W ASW800 in cherry to match my existing sub. Since this model is now discontinued (not able to find used) would it be OK to use a B&W ASW825? Difference between the two being the driver cone material - Rohacell (ASW825) vs paper/Kevlar (ASW800). These will be used with N804 in a daisy chain configuration. Power amp is RB-1092 & pre is RC-1090. :coffee:

HI miner,
First, almost everybody buys less subwoofer than they need. The amount of air they must move is huge. It's one of the major reasons subs are expensive.
Whether one needs one or two (or more!!!) depends on the size of the room, the volume levels, and the program material. In general I would say that two in a stereo configuration is the minimum for a 12 inch driver if you want a high performing system.
I agree with your goal of having two. My small bedroom, it's 14 X 12 X 8, 5.1 HT system has two ASW800's and they kick ass. I was faced with the same problem because I bought my dealers demo ASW800 thinking I could find another one. Well, I couldn't. So I borrowed his ASW825. I kept it for a week trying decide if the mix was working right. I felt the mix worked very well although I think the ASW825 put out slightly more power at slightly less distortion. The difference was never obvious and audible only if you are very familiar with the system sound and be listening for the differences. Even then, I had to wonder if it was just my imagination. If I had not found another ASW800 on ebay I would have bought the ASW825.

Thanks Sparky. My room is 25' w X 35' L x 12' H - I would say that meets the criteria for 2 subs. Mind me asking how much your used ASW800 went for - for benchmark purposes. I think I can get a new ASW825 for $2000.Originally posted by KarmaHI miner,

HI miner,
Yes, your room definitely qualifies. In fact, I would go with two ASW850's. The 15 inch drivers are worth the extra. But I know the expense is high.
I paid $1450 plus shipping for a mint ASW800 in black which matches my other ASW800. I couldn't pass it up. If you can get an ASW825 for $2000 you would be doing very well indeed. Good luck.

by GremalAfter upgrading my N802 pair to 802D and immediately identifying the advantages of the Rohacell/Kevlar cone over the paper/Kevlar, I decided I needed to sell my ASW800 and buy an ASW825. I found one for sale listed in excellent condition and quickly made a deal with the seller. I pleaded with him to...-

by AshHey Guys need your help,
My next upgrade will be the sub. I have an ASW1000 which i'm not very happy with, it gives boomy and undefiened bass. I'm not saying its a bad sub, but it's not that great, especially with music. It's either too low (to avoid the excessive boomyness) or out of...-

by GremalI am currently using the ASW800 in my system and have not been following B&W's latest gear. Now I see the comparable sub is the ASW825 and the 800 is no longer offered. I realize a different Xover is being used in the 825, but are there other differences? Does the newer crossover and other? advantages...-

by Mark_89Hello,
I am the owner of a pre-owned 5.2 set consisting only of B&W 700 series speakers colored in pretty rosenut; amongst which 2 ASW750s. Now, sadly, one of my ASW750s has died. When I was using it recently it was playing at lower volumes but now when i turn it on theres no sound...-

by texasbwfanI finally took the plunge! I traded in my ASW675 for an ASW825. As many have stated on this forum, the difference between the two subs is substantial. The 805S / HTM3S / ASW825 combo is simply fantastic. While I don't have the audiophile experience as most contributors on this board...I will share...-
