    Too much power for 705's?

Hey guys I wanted to ask a question regarding power for these speakers, I currently have them setup with a Rotel RX-1052 stereo reciever, this is rated at 100w, I was thinking of adding a Rotel RB-1080 wich is rated at 200w, now my question is right now the limit on the volume is 72 75 on the volume, then it starts getting harsh and maybe the begining of clipping. Would adding this amp mean Im not going to be able to raise it as high because I will blow the speakers due to excess power?, one more question am I good with my stereo reciever as a preamp?

    Hi,

Good news, in fact the RB-1080 will be better for your speakers (especially loud) than your reciever... This is becuase it is generally when an amplifier starts clipping that it creates lots of high frequency energy harmionics which put too much power into the tweeter and can damage the driver ro crossover.. Clean amplifer power is much better... And yes your reciever will make a fine pre-amp the the RB-1080 - many of us upgraded to separates that way... However do be judicious with the extra volume of the new amp - for example if you just turn it up even louder until it too is clipping / distrorting - then you may do some serous damage

      RB1080...how much better?
      by resperc
I just bought a 1068/1075 combo and I am loving it. It's a huge upgrade over the Onkyo reciever I was using. Home theater and music (stereo) both sound great. I was considering adding the RB1080 for my front speakers. I have decent speakers (Polk Audio-RT55s, CS400, FX500s and PSW650...need to upgrade...

Connecting pre AND prepro to RB1080
      by hitek57
      Hi all,

As mentioned in my earlier post, I just added an RB1080 to power my front speakers. And the result is, in a word, WOW. Soundstaging, detail and bass oomph are much better than with my other, ageing power amps -- B&K ST2002 and Marantz M500 monoblocks.

      I have...

      Hi

I have heard that this is the best forum to talk Rotel.

I am thinking of buying an used Rotel RB991 to add to my HT setup. I will use the pre-out of my Denon AVR 3805 to connect to the power amp to drive my Dynaudio Audience 82 speakers.

      I have heard comments...
