Where to Get B&W Speakers Fixed - New Jersey/New York/Philadelphia area ?

Hey guys:

Anyone know someone who is able to evaluate and repair damaged B&W speakers?

The stores charge a very high price, and from what I understand, fixing speakers is not that hard. So does anyone know a "somewhat" techy guy in the New Jersey/New York/Philadelphia area who might be willing to make some money and fix them?

What's wrong? If they need drivers, B&W is the only source.

If you need a new driver they are not all that expensive IMO.

Tell us your problem M8 ,and we could help you decide whether you have to deal with B&W or a B&W dealer etc..!! Yes, Do you need new drivers?

I don't know what the problem is. I heard it could be a new driver, or a crossover or something else (maybe a fuse?). So, I was hoping someone could look at it and make that determination. They are B&W 801 speakers.

I had a really great party one night that ended up with very loud music that went from no volume to extreme volumes throughout the night. So the dramatic bursts of sound did in both speakers and my subwoofer!! Yikes. One of the stupidest things I ever did (drank way too much :B )

At this point, the midrange is hollow sounding on both speakers. I beleive the tweeters and woofers survived, not positive.

If I knew for sure it was just a matter of replacing the midrange driver, then I bet I could do it myself with some B&W phone suppport. But I don't know where the problem is.

I have the 801 matrix series 3 (can't find the manual). How can I tell if I have a circuit breaker/reset? Is it obviously seen and accessible?

There were external indicators and controls but I think they antedated your model. I would try to get an manual, though.

Unfortunately, B&W decided to remove the APOC protection circuitry from the 801 Series 3. APOC may have protected your speakers from damage due to excessive drive. However, the Series 3 was capable of dealing with huge amounts of input power, 600 RMS watts maximum according to the user manual. How much power are your amplifiers?? That must have been one hell of a party!

APOC may have protected your speakers from damage due to excessive drinking I would say, rather than excessive drive. Loud Music should not damage your speakers, unless they were clipping!! Were they?? I guess the booze won't depict that !! What is the power of your amp.? Is your hangover gone? Now go and an audition your speakers again in the sober session, and see if you still have that problem, beacuse your ears could still be ringing from the loud music you played the night before, and the booze distorts your hearing capabilities!! Could be just a fuse or a driver, but I really doubt you blew your mid range, unless of course the amp. is under powered and clipping occured ,or your amp is too powerful and you just cranked that Knob to stairways to hell !!
I hope that it is just a simple problem ,but your best bet is to have your B&W dealer look at your problem to detect what is causing this.
