    802FSpecial Series 80

My xmas gift this year was a new old stock pair of 802 FS Series 80 speakers. Can any owne out there help me get a little more bass out of them. They are truley wonderful, just a little lacking in bass. They are driven by a new Denon 3805 and a Denon 2910ci Cd player. It is a duel purpose system, hometheater and my two chanel listening. Any advise would be greatly apreciated.

Try to throw in a subwoofer to compensate the lack of bass.

Very rare and tough to find, but if you can, get an 800 series B&W line filter. They made them for 801 and 802 if I recall correctly. My Dad installed one on his 801 and it made a gigantic difference.

Upgrading your amp will also make a difference for the better.

Thanks for your reply. Who made the filter and where do I begin looking?

Filters were made by B&W. Like I said, they're very rare and tough to find but over the years I've seen 2 for sale on audiogon.com. Other than that, old stereo stores maybe? It's a pretty old item (the speakers after all are relatively old) so it's a really hard item to find.

I think it's officially called a "high pass alignment filter" or something like that. Basically you go from preamp to filter (RCA cables) then from filter to amp (also RCA cables). The filter is plugged in to 120V power and you're all set.

Quite honestly I don't know how it works, but damn does it ever make things sound better!

Introducing Myself And Questions (MATRIX 801 SERIES III)
                by Jorgitox
                Hi everybody!

As many of you, the Matrix 801 were a dream from the very beginning, when falling into Hi-Fi clutches. Years have passed and finally I could bought a pair of 801 Series II second handed (white ones), while now I also got another pair of 801 (black ones), but in Series III....

801 Series 2 - Rowland and Classe matching?
                by deepbluebda
I have been chatting to a B&W rep - about proper matching for my 801 Series 2 in a HT setup. I currently have them in stereo only on a Jeff Rowland Model 1.

To move them over to HT, B&W suggests the Classe SSP-600, the B&W HTM2 and matched rears - and 3 or 5 more amplifier...

                Hi

Have any of you ever tried to "upgrade" the 801 Series 80? I am thinking tweaks to the cross over, better cables internally, chaning the tweeters to never metal dome type's - and if so does it work with the existing crossover? -or maybe even changing it from a closed box...

Need Help with 801 series 80 (the originals)
                by whoofer
Hello, all. I have "inherited" a pair of somewhat cosmetically-challenged 801 Series 80 speakers from around 1982 or so. These were originally a matched-pair though time has done some damage to the relationship.
Does anyone have, or know a good source for, parts for these things?...
