I went from a Yamaha HTR-5730 to a Rotel RSX-1057 and the sound comparison is unbelievable! The Rotel does not have features that i won't use ever like the Yamaha, but it has the most important attribute of any AV Receiver - Sound Quality!- Bottom

Yamaha 659 should have no problem driving the 603 S3. In fact, I have this Amp for almost a year now, driving my B&W CM1, Heco D'Appolito Signature CS, D8 Sunfire Sub and Bose AMII as surround. I am satisfied with it for the price I paid. If you go to Rotel's direction, the price might by twice as the 659. I don't think the sound quality is twice better than the yamaha.- Bottom

I have the htr-5960 (equivalent to RX-V659) and B&W 603s S3. I am very happy with the sound quality of the system and the features of the receiver. Yamaha and B&W have a reputation for being "bright" sounding and some folks worry that matching the two together will lead to an unpleasant sound. The B&Ws are "bright" in the sense that the frequency response doesn't roll off slightly at higher frequencies. The Yamaha is also fairly flat up to 20kHz, unlike Rotel which starts to round off below 20kHz.

The differences are very small, but some folks feel that B&W pairs better with Rotel than Yamaha, as a result. If you're looking to buy speakers in the $1K range, I wouldn't worry about matching and instead buy the speakers that sound good to you.- Bottom

by mikegunnzHi all,
I'm new to both the forum and to quality audio. My previous ht was a htib system that cost $300 for receiver and speakers. Needless to say it was a real pos. While I'm still on a budget, I do have a little more $$ to spend and after doing a bit of research, I've purchased a yamaha rxv659...-

by weijstHi there people,
Well, the subject says it all...
Food for thought:- The DM601 + ASW675 combo is attractive as I can send the DM601's to the back when getting a pair of floorstanders as fronts (I'll never use a pair of floorstanders as surrounds)
