B&W 805S?? Need help identifying please.

Hello Gents,

I'm listing a pair of B&W 805's, but I dont know if they are the N805 or new 805S. I was pretty sure they were the 805S until I received an email saying that they are just the regular Nautilus 805. How can I tell? They were originally purchased right after the new year 2006, and have been sitting in my closet since April. What landmarks would indicate 805S vice 805? Your help would be greatly appreciated, I'd hate to sell with an inaccurate description. Here's the link:

I would assume this information could be had from the nameplate on the back or the serial number.

Ok thanks for the information. The back on the nameplate does not have 805S on the back, just Nautilus 805. I understand the rules about selling; by no means am I trying to throw in a plug for my gear. As a matter of fact I discourage anyone from bidding until I can get to the bottom of this. Cheers.

you can tell the difference by the phase plug. the one on the N805 is removeable, on the 805S it is not. also, there is an indention on the N805 under the "microphone" that is not there on the 805S.

The Ss are clearly labelled on the back and unlike the photo the manuals cover is in colour.

I agree that they are N805 - the position of the grill "holders" also gives it away, though it's just a minor detail.

From what I have read everything on the N805 was tweeked, some bits more than others. I understand that the tweeter is basically from the previous signature model with refinements, it is attached to the speaker cabinet differently. The tweeter is further forward on the S as they now use a simpler first order crossover design. This was to improve driver integration and timing. They also tweeked the bass/midrange. Soundwise, judging by the reviews the S is superior to the N805 and Signature models with smoother highs and a more integrated sound. The N805 can appear more detailed sounding, particularly in the highs, but not necessarily in a good way.

Thats the blurb from the internet, you will have to listen for yourself to see if the changes are significant for your ears.
